Just got off the phone with my husband & I could sure use some advice for him next time he calls. Here's the problem; his trainer is an Owner/Operator that believes he can say & do whatever he wants because Wayne (my husband) is JUST a trainee. Apparently the guy throws regular temper tantrums, won't shower, doesn't wear his seatbelt, only lets Wayne drive the "straight" stretches of road, doesn't teach him anything about QualComm or trip planning, tells Wayne when he can & cannot shower etc.He told my husband that when he(the trainer) goes home for Thanksgiving, Wayne will be able to go home also even though his 28 days won't be up until the 26th, but Wayne should stay home, quit CRST, get a job with a different company, because this one sucks!:( We know that it's rough out there away from family for a 28 day stretch, but why be an ### to the guy you're supposed to be teaching? What should Wayne do about this guy? I've told him he should call his fleet manager or somebody at the company, Wayne says if he gets ANYWHERE close to Alabama in the truck he's just gonna cut on the trainer, quit & come home. What should I tell him?

    Depends.
Is he gonna be stuck repaying the schooling for the CDL he now has.
All he needs to do is grow a set and set his trainer right or request a new one.

Tell him to contact his driver trainer if he has one. If not get a hold of safety or somebody in office. If he quits, especially under a load, then it would be considered as abandonment and follow him wherever he applies to. That's not good. All of the time nd effort he (and you) would have gone down the drain. If he can keep it positive enough to finish his training then maybe he could either fill in a trainers evaluation or talk to somebody as well. But first thing first, talk to somebody in office. Good luck. Its not easy going through this stage of the new profession but it will determine his willingness of wanting to be a driver. There will be harder and tougher people sometimes.

I would call the company and see if he could get with another trainer. He needs to explain what has been happening and see if he can work it out to get through the training and into a truck. It will be much easier for him to stay where he is as long as he can get with a different trainer. If he gets by one of their terminals he could speak with the operations manager and see if they have someone whom your husband could go with to complete his training. If he quits without completing his training or getting some solid experience, he will pretty much need to start all over again. He could start with his dispatcher and work his way up until he finds someone who is willing to help. If he can't get any help then he can always quit later, but it is to his advantage to try and work it out.

Request a new trainer. If the company is so bad, why is the trainer still there? If you husband just quits, he will have a very hard time landing another trucking job. If he owes for the school, he should stay there until the debt is paid and then leave with a 2 week notice. In the meantime, you and he start researching companies for a new job. He will have a goal to reach, paying the debt and having a new company waiting for him.

He had his CDL before he signed on with CRST. He's under the impression for some reason that he can't say anything to the trainer.

Well probably 75% of all trainers in any trucking company are @@@holes, especially owner operaters because it's there equipment your driving. Best to get a company driver to train you...That being said,, I "hear" that CRST is especially bad anyhow in every aspect...

No school debt owed-he went to orientation for 4 days then started out with trainer on 6th day. Don't know what the trainer's problem is, he told Wayne that he was leaving CRST in January.
