Hello, truckers. This is the first time i've posted. I'm trying to get a little knowledge about attending a school in Michigan. The recruiter at U.S t.d.t.s gave me the following information. The recruiter is telling me the trucking company will pre-hire me and if I'm pre-hired they will agree to finance the cost of the classes as long as I agree to work for them for a certain amount of time at no cost to me. They also said that if I switch trucking companies, my new employer would finance any unpaid portion of the remaining tuition owed. I would go to school for four weeks, obtain my CDLA and then go to orientation with the trucking company. I called the trucking company and they said their form of tuition reimbursement would be to take $0.02 off of every mile I drive and they would be kind enough to make the payments for me since sometimes new truckers forget. I then contacted the recruiter again at U.S.t.d.t.s. and he said that they were mistaken and didn't know what was going on and couldn't understand why they would say that. I would greatly appreciate any info that might help, or has anyone attended U.S.t.d.t.s that would share firsthand experience.
    Thank You

Schneider does this. That is who I have applied with for the very reasun that you have. So I can get it paid for over time and no out of pocket money. I think that they take 12.50 per week out of your check for it. Not sure yet because i didnt get a chance to talk to the recruiter today when she called as i was at work. Ill know more when I speak with her.

I find it very hard to believe if you switch companies, the new company would pick up the bill. However, I think its a pretty good deal if you can get financing from the company to go to a school outside the company... or at least a company approved school. Everyone I checked with offered tuition reimbursement but I had a heck of a time finding a bank willing to fork out thousands of dollars for my tuition. I found a credit union through the school and I finish next week. Good luck.

while schneider takes 12.50 from your check every week they also pay $50 to themselves twards your school, so you end up paying only $975 over the course of the 18 month contract. if you stay on with Schneider for 2 years they give you a $1000 bonus. which means you got your cdl completely on schneiders dime. and from what ive seen so far the horror stories happen to people who have a bad attitude going in (or a realy ###### dbl [dispatcher] who needs to be fired, happened to my road trainer when he first started). just remember that if you want your cdl you either pay up front or a company will "pay" for it and then force you to work for them with a contract.

Looks like my prayers were answered. Michigan has a program called "Michigan works" were they allot money in the form of a grant for retraining of its out of work residents. I was fortunate to qualify.
Many Thanks to all of you who responded to my question.
I hope the road treats you kindly.
