So, as Im always doing on here lately... I was researching a thread and ran across one discussing qualifications. There was alot of comments basically about backgrounds and MVR's. There was one individual who mentioned the possibility of some companies CHECKING YOUR CREDIT, as apart of there pre-employment list of things to narrow down applicants. In my personal opinion, this isn't fair. Why should your previous financial situation, have anything to do with you being hired? How do they not know that someone might be getting into the industry to straighten things of that nature out? Or if your identity was stolen, and some idiot ran your credit into the ground? There should be someone to say that this isn't fair to the applicant. Truckers, please weigh in on this one. Personal experiences, dislike of this hiring procedure, and testimonials PERTAINING TO THIS SUBJECT, are welcomed and appreciated. Thanks in advance for all responses and help. Drive Safely Truckers!
Seriously... Credit checking, prior to employment?

some companies pull your credit becuase they don't want to deall with your inability to pay your debt.
in other words. they don't want to deal with your garnishments. -
as more and more people flock to trucking as the answer, the cherry picking will continue from companies.

may be a customer's requirement for some loads....we do a lot of high value loads and i'm sure some of those customers would just see it as the prudent thing to do given the value of what's in the trailer.
and it may also be the insurance comany's requirement as well....speaking as someone who once DID ruin his credit, and had to take that long torturous road back to a near perfect score, the way you manage your finances is considered a measure of your character and the type of person you are.....right or wrong, that's just the way it is.
someone with a poor credit score could be considered a risk as far a transporting high value shipments given their 'on paper' financial situation.80'sbabytrucka, T...Street and Big Don Thank this. -

My previous employer checks your credit before hire. If you have bad credit they will not hire you. I was told that they don't want to hire someone who can't manage their own finances. I didn't believe it was fair until I saw why it was implemented in the first place, and now it makes sense as to why they would do it.
My company didn't check my credit, my previous employer did. It depends on who it is I suppose.
Ethan80'sbabytrucka Thanks this. -
What if you don't have any credit?

I wouldn't worry too much about it. If they really need you, they will "overlook" it. Otherwise, move to Chicago.
Us here, we don't look at your credit, but your performance and safety is the key.
