My longtime girlfriend and I are CDL Graduates. We are planning to drive team for Werner. According to the company we can make between $100k and $150k per year. I already know about Werner's reputation. But everyone does seem to mention teams getting A LOT of miles from Werner, and a lot of miles is what we want. One poster on this site even said they got up to 6200 miles per week. My aunt and uncle drive team for Halvor Lines and make around $85,000 together, however they said they don't drive as hard as they could and take a lot of time off. Can teams for Werner or any other company make $150,000 per year?

    Thanks, Mike

Yes teams that run don't have to much problem cracking the 100k mark. Don't know about Werner but we did about 120k our first full year out.

Why am I going to Werner? Well, every large company has a bad reputation, they seem to all be the same to me. I just wanted to make it clear I wasn't asking about their reputation, but about their team pay and mileage. Anyway, she caused an accident a year ago. We found that only the large companies would even take her application. Werner was the only one that would hire her. Also, everyone in the local papers require 2 years of experience. We may go to Halvor Lines out of Duluth Mn after we put in some time with Werner. My aunt and uncle are very pleased with them.

I don't get wrapped up into reputations all that much. Everyone has their own experiences. I'll see how it goes. If we are making good money and don't mind the company, we'll stay with Werner. If not, we'll put in a year and start searching again. Even if we don't make $100,000 per year even half that would be more then we make now. I'm not worried about taking a pay-cut. We are leaving $10/hr jobs.

wow....how is it possible to drive 6200 miles per week?

that would be over 1000 per day....in 6 days....

i guess the wheels would have to be rolling at least 16 hrs per day.

YES,,,pretty much ..you have to keep rolling and the left door shut...Then you can roll 1000 miles per day plus....but, you have to keep rolling and the left door has to stay shut....Then you can drive those miles..:biggrin_2558:

With a team driving situation, that's only 8 hours a day each. When Mike drove team, the truck rolled about 22 to 23 hours a day (gas and meal stops). 8 hours a day is nothing :biggrin_255:

Miles is only half the equation the other half is pay rate. Most companies are paying teams between .40 cpm to .50 cpm but this is SPLIT between the 2 drivers.
So if you are paid .50 cpm and turn 5000 paid miles per week that would be $2500.00 to the truck and 1250.00 for each driver. If you were to turn 6000 miles per week the pay could go to $3000.00 to the truck and 1500.00 to each driver.
So as you can see it is "possible" to make well over 100 grand a year as a team operation. The hardest running teams will turn around 7000 miles per week consistently and can make close to $200,000.00 to the truck. But that is no life and just "turning and burning."
As a former team driver my truck would turn 1100 miles per day each day we ran only stopping for fuel, bathroom, and food.

My brother has done that. I assured him not only was he crazy, but also illegal. (i'm not talking 11 driving, and 10 off. It was straight thru)

My opinion was duly noted and rejected.
