Snowwy, I hate it when I hear people complain about their jobs, but they continue to do it. If you hate your job, then why don't you quit? Any job has its positives and negatives. I'm educated and have worked in the corporate world all my life. I decided I didn't like it anymore. I was not happy with it anymore. I have no problems with people who objectively give the negatives about a profession, but it seems a lot of people just beach about their situation. If you don't like your situation, then quit and find something you like. I don't know you, and I hope you find what you like, but sitting around and complaining about your job and doing nothing about it does nothing. In my research about trucking on this site, there seems to be a bunch of whiners who don't like their jobs. Why don't they quit then if they hate their jobs so much? Just my 2 cents. I wish you the best and hope you find something that suits you better.

 

This is why I'm getting into trucking too. I've been an electronics technician for most of my life, but when I recently lost my position I had a choice. With my experience I could have gotten another job in the same career and work my way up another ladder but I decided not to do that again and leave that to younger folks.

I had driven for about a year and a half during a slump in my industry around 20 years ago. With a young family and having chosen a company that couldn't keep me rolling I decided it wasn't for me then, but also decided I would return to it towards the end of my working years with the idea my wife would eventually join me and retire to the road. And, since I'm out of work now I figured it would be as good a time as any to get back on the road and I'm really looking forward to it.

you want to hear nothing but positive aspects. and that my friend, is few and far between.

 

I hate when people with no personal experience chime in on issues they're new to. I'd rather hear every reason a person is dissatisfied or unsuccessful than listen to a rant about how great things are. It's reality.

 

Hmm, new guys giving the veterans the what for like they know what is.

 

Does anyone know if you can get out of training early or do you have to do the whole 5 weeks? Also once you go solo are you resrticted to a certain amount of miles.

 

If you have recent experience (past 2 years) they might bend the rules for you. Otherwise it's 28 days minimum. No restrictions after upgrade to solo

 

Gotta love the 0 milers telling drivers to quit whining. They read on the Internet that we all make 100k a year and go home every weekend.

 

I don't think that any of us newbies, and certainly me, have any illusions about how tough trucking can be. But, those who have been in it a while are also naive if they think that problems in general aren't common to man. Its how you approach difficulties that is truly a defining trait. One thing I can say, if I get on the road with this company and I don't like it for one reason or another, I'll address those concerns or move on. I won't go around bellyaching about it unless its towards a goal of righting a wrong, not so I can give everyone around me the "woe is me" act. God gave me freedom of choice and put me in the greatest nation on earth for exercising those freedoms. I'm certainly not going to waste that. I've always been a problem solver (hence why I was a good technician) and that's a skill I take with me everywhere. I haven't succeeded in everything I've tried, but I have learned and always have found some success. I'm like a plant in rocky soil, my roots stretch out and they either find a way or make a way even pulverizing the rock when necessary.
