There have been issues with a lot of the APU's. Breakdowns, etc that just make them not worth the hassle and headache. A lot of them don't even work most of the time.
If more drivers would learn to actually shut their trucks off when it's nice out instead of idling constantly, it probably wouldn't have become as big of an issue.

Alot of these breakdowns are caused by drivers not keeping up with the apu inspections 2 engines 2 inspections.
Most significantly the simple task of checking the apu dipstick.
Hardly a reason for someone not to equip a fleet with apu's.
More training and reminder's in regards to inspecting the entire unit and training shop personal on how to maintain and diagnose the unit's.Lilbit Thanks this. -
Some of them are, but some of it is just other reasons.

try engaging the cruise control control (while parked of course); bump up the speed using the button on the steering wheel, then bump it back down to idle (with the cruise still on); it worked in the last Cascadia I was in; July; but that doesnt mean anything.

I complained to safety that I couldnt sleep with the truck shutting off and on all night and they took the idle control off
