J.B. Hunt orientation

my question is with all that experience why are you wasting your time with jb hunt?

 

Countless other folks out there that WANT you and your experience. You're wasting your time and talent applying @ a mega-fleet!

 

And I think that abandoning yearly planning their time

 

As I've noted on another thread about this company I also have been driving for 20 yrs or so and tried them out. Lasted 4 months and the orientation was the worst I have ever seen in the industry. I actually made it through all of the madness to the road test and went out with the tester and another driver. The other driver was a new one and the tester actually pulled him out of the seat and had me take the truck back to the yard. IMHO JBHunt had not intention of hiring this guy for whatever reason and failed him on purpose and I told the tester that he was an ### for acting like he did. If they didn't want the guy they should have told him to go home from the start. Todd, the tester, told me he was going to fail me, this was after the test and standing in the office and I told him to grab his paper and let's walk down to his boss right now and have a chat. Nothing ever came of it but it left a very bad impression and never got better. JB is a garbage company and believe me all of the stories you have heard of them are true. If your a new driver and need to get a year under your belt maybe do it and keep your mouth shut but for everyone else I can not recommend them for any reason.

 

May I ask what compelled you to give them a try? I received a call from one of their annoying recruiters about a month ago offering me
"home two days off and 1000 dollars per week" on their container account out of Chicago. I obviously had my doubts on them based on their reputation, and specially the fact that they are calling ME, why would they call me? Don't they have enough drivers in their fleets to offer this "sweet opportunity to be home every week". I responded that I wanted a local job or just every saturday and sunday off. With a little research it turns out their container account gets you home for a 34 hr reset whenever they feel like it, be it sunday night or wednesday morning and only pays 38 cents per mile.

Same recruiter called me again this week offering me their Amazon account in Swanton, Ohio supposedly home every weekend and 40 cents per mile.

Why are they so desperate? Is this just a recruiter trying to make money off of me or is their turnover rate THAT terrible? I didn't even think about it. Screw JB Hunt. They can find someone else to live in their trucks in exchange for peanuts.

 

I had moved to a new state and was between jobs. I wasn't desperate by any means but was wanting to work so I figured I would give them a try for a bit and keep looking for a better job. I never had much of an intention of staying with them long term.
They offered me home every weekend and .41. Never got home every weekend and they claimed after a month or two to have never told me they did. I would not trust what they said for any money.

Now I have heard that their container account works pretty decent but as for the $1,000/week I'd have to take that with a grain of salt. Let's just say that after my experience with them I would not take a job with them for any money not matter what it was.

 

A great number of recruiters are outside sourced and the people have no idea about trucking. They are paid to get drivers into the door any way possible. My recruiter for Schneider was not a truck driver and had never been but he was up front about it and said as much. He was a nice guy, though, and didn't lie about stuff. "I don't know" came out of his mouth several times in response to questions I had and he told me to drive up to the terminal and talk to the terminal manager in person about it.
