On the straps being to short. Do what I do if you can.
My straps have chains on the ends. I just hook short chains to them to make them longer.

Not that it makes any difference now, but you can not permit a load for over height if it is divisible. In other words, if you were going into a state where 13'6 is the max legal height, you can not stack 3 units if the load would exceed 13'6. The DOT would tell you that you had to take one unit off

14' is legal heigh out here.

i got a load in the 11th hour. i had just got off the phone with my wife and son telling them i wouldnt be home for thanksgiving. it was right at 5pm eastern when our office closes and i had nothing. an agent called asking me to do a three stop albaturky, dallas and garland. it was 9.2" and had to tarp so nobody wanted it, lazy people. it is a legal load and pays $.25/mi more then the oversize did.

btw. thats not a phone call i ever want to make again. in 20yrs i have never missed a thanksgiving or christmass.

so i ran to long beach and loaded and i am back here in ontario AGAIN

In my deer blind in WI. Grain hauling is about wrapped up for the year. Probably have to hook on the flatbed in a week or two.
