On the insurance I guess you could try praying, I doubt if you'll find anybody to insure you one day with a permit.
Your best bet may be to contact your local workforce investment office, they may have funds available to put you through a CDL school. try this link http://www.oet.ky.gov/des/wis/wfservices.htm -
Finding an insurance company to cover you without having a CDL may be a challenge. I would check with Progressive Insurance and OOIDA. I don't know if OOIDA can write the insurance, but they may be able to direct you to a company that could write the policy. You may also check with your auto insurance company. They may be able to write something to cover you for one day. There may be one other possibility. Check with the owner of the truck and see if he can cover you under his policy.

The guy thats gonna go with me can put the insurance under him. Im just wondering if it could be insured as a sort of private use. I dont need 500k of load coverage for an empty trailer to test in.

I have a friend who bought a truck and didn't do anything with it for a couple of years. He was able to get some sort of insurance on it so that he could drive it on weekends to keep it up. I don't recall the company. At the time he didn't have a trailer.

If you can find it, you would only need liability and or physical damage coverage ( also known as comp/collision in the 4 wheeler world ). Cargo is a completely different policy and you just wouldnt purchase that section.

If he dont have insurance on it I doubt it have tags if thats the case it may be cheaper finding someone with a truck on the road

I would suggest going to a CDL training school. Most of them are approved under the Post 9/11 GI Bill now. It will also help you with getting a job.
dannythetrucker Thanks this.
