The hydraulic ram was missing a bracket to keep it from bending out like that and no ones ever noticed. It was replaced awhile ago while I was on vacation and I just got the truck back last week after being out of it for a month. When the ram bent it put most of the pressure on the other side causing the post to snap. Equipment failure as I couldn't have stopped it. Unloading was a pain..... Backed another truck up to mine to lift the deck by the flip plates on the back with the flip plates on the other truck. Not designed for that kind of use so it was pretty sketchy looking at them bend. I had to then drive the other truck off onto the other truck and then proceed to unload the bottom since I had enough clearance. Had to then drive back to our Calgary shop where they cut the bent post and hydraulic rams off so the deck just sat on the bottom so I could unload the top. Made my Calgary trip into 3 days instead of 2 but Atleast I got paid for all the waiting time.

Have seen that happen a time or 2 on Cottrell. It is a maint./shop error when the angle iron brace is either removed and never put back or breaks off and is not repaired. I am surprised you were able to raise the deck to load below the Armada at all. Unless the bracket broke off after loading, the ram should have bent the minute you tried to raise it.

It just was never there lol. It rose perfectly fine while loading. It's happened before that the ram had started to bend but never to that extent.

How did I not see this thread until now, I don't know. Been there and done that too. Was lucky that when the back post gave out ( with an F-250 crew cab 4x4 8' box ) on it, there was nothing underneath, having just unloaded the bottom. In my case, the lower pivot pin snapped and sent the arm/post/ram out sideways. Glad that happened on the road because said pin is about 2 feet from the valve bank on the trailer ( and my head !! )

Welcome to the wonderful world of car haul and worn out gear, Nate.

Always fun unloading truck to truck isn't it.
