always get the SWRs checked on the antenna.
brewton Thanks this. -
Start by plugging in an SWR meter inline and seeing what's going on. Make sure you calibrate the SWR meter and make sure the antenna isn't next to a bunch of metal causing RF reflection back into the radio. (you want more of the antenna above the metal if possible) Also make sure your coax is nice and tight, make sure none of it is pinched. Have someone with an ohmmeter/multimeter, ohm the coax between the center and outer connections for continuity. (disconnect the coax but leave it in the truck) Finally try "swaptronics" and seeing if a buddy with a known good antenna can try his set up no your truck/see if it makes any difference.

The radio has the swr n calibration built in i got a multimeter @home definitely hafta giv it a shot my tractor has antennas already would they cause interference thamks for the tips oh n would a seperate swr meter wrk better
-
Ive used the radio to check tje swr n calibrate but it jus acts lik nothings connected maybe its the coax
-
i have seen radios with that built in swr light go off even with the antenna reading 1:5 swr. i just do not trust the ones in the radios.
brewton Thanks this. -
I wouldn't trust the built in SWR meter as they're known to be inaccurate. An external is always your best bet.
But yes it could be the coax, it could also be the mount...if it's installed wrong or not grounded.brewton Thanks this. -
Any pilot would tell you to "trust your insturments"...at least til ya see the ground coming up fast.

Believe the light! The radio is telling you that something is very wrong & you'll likely ruin the radio if ya keep transmitting til the problem is solved.
I don't know if your truck does,,,but alot of trucks use a "box" that feeds the t/v, am/fm, & cb off of the oem antennas/coax. Sometimes these work ok but most times they don't.
Run a single dedicated coax off of a completely seperate mirror-mounted antenna strait to the cb radio. Isolate the radio from the trucks antenna system completely.
Betcha this will fix it.
Not an expert here,,,just an old truckers advice.
edit; Turbo-T,,,that signature-line of yours is fantastic! LMAO.Last edited: Nov 18, 2012
