new HOS regulations fast approaching..........

Agreed.

The current HOS rules force me to drive when I'm tired so that I can complete my trips on time before my 14 runs out. I don't dare stop to take a nap if I'm tired.

 

I am currently on a 10 hour break. After it's up I'm gonna pick up a load and run through the night. If it want for HOS I would have already picked it up and stopped at a reasonable time for sleep, but the 14 hour rule means I cant do that.

HOS has forced me to drive tired more than it has prevented me from doing so. I started driving at 0530, but found out I cant get my load until 1900 (preloaded) so I grabbed a 4 hour nap, killed 6 hours (just to be legal) and now I get to run against my own circadian rhythms. Thanks DOT for saving me from a more responsible schedule.

I don't understand the once during 7 days reset either, so if I get another reset before the 7th day I got too much rest and therefore can't restart my 70?

Where'd the 82 hour number come from?

 

It would need to include two nights rest from 1:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m.

 

Government for you, they have never been good at simple arithmetic. And we let them tell us what to do? and when? ####.....

 

So when do we start working on regulating the stupid office guy looking at documents that he was up all night drafting then got in his car talking on the cell phone driving 80mph shaving in the mirror and realizes that he is about to miss the exit to the office and cuts off the truck driver that was forced to run without getting a nap putting him in the ditch, happens all day long everyday of the week in every city, but that crap is our fault too.........well I don't know who is going to bring the toilet paper when we all go on Bamas welfare card.......

 

Not only that there are a lot of companies who will have to change their load hours and delivery hours to accomodate these new regs. Now if they all worked with drop and hook it may not be as bad, but you know that's not going to happen.

 

What it amounts to is that you can only take period of time for a restart and it will have to be on the same day of the week. If you have a period in a middle of week with a reset because of no loads, etc. that reset will not count. I see everyone taking off on Friday afternoon and not being back on duty till Monday morning. Sounds like a 9-5 job to me.
