I don't know where it came from, it's just how the oil patch has always been.

there's a lot of things in this industry that are dreadfully outdated. Pay is one, I mean recievers could just do a bump on my android phone to sign for the load and pay me at the same time.

I still can't believe how many people want to fax me stuff. Fax machines should be buried alongside of 8-track players by now.

And although I guess there will always be something to be said for phone calls, I personally prefer email or text. email gives me a time stamped legal document for one. and also, you are able to respond to them in order very efficiently, whereas a phone call is always an interruption.

internet fax is the way to go. you got timestamp and faxes are maintained on the server end for some months. so you don' thave to worry about keeping a copy on your laptop.

as for oil field pay. my bro in law hauls and he says the two companies he worked submitted bills and were usually paid within 30 days.

I use internet fax, but you still get the same blurry faxes, it's quicker and easier to send a nice crisp .pdf file by email. Also, my fax service (myfax) takes at least 10 minutes to process, sometimes longer. An email is delivered practically as soon as I click send.

It's not the talking part I don't like. It's the waiting for someone to pick up, being put on hold, not getting the person I wanted to speak with, dropped calls, people calling me when I'm in heavy traffic, people calling me when I'm unloading my trailer, leaving voicemails not knowing if anyone will ever get to them, three people calling me at the same time, .....

It's just terribly inefficient. When I make a phone call, I am likely interrupting someone who is working on something else. When I send an email, they can get to it after they complete whatever task they are on. Unlike being on hold or getting voicemail, I don't have to wait and they don't have to be interrupted. And that's not even mentioning the fact that most people can type and read 3-10 times faster than they can talk.

But I think rbht is right that there are certain things like negotiating a rate or something where you want that live phone conversation. For other things like check calls, please don't make me use this god awful device when I can send a quick text or email !

i swear, my bank is my biggest enemy

it will hold one check for 7 days, and one day it will clear the same check over night

and when you call them and ask them (after going thru that stupid robotic prompts) the human robot tells you that he cant disclose why the checks are delayed, other than some internal security system (same check, same depositor) go figure

insurance companies and banks are the anti-christ (walmart too)
