The bigger tool box, the more fun toys to take with you. Mine is 7' tall, and 40" deep. I can walk in it and still not big enough.

    SHC Thanks this.

Nice cabinet if the price is good. I would much prefer it to a rack. Bit more secure for your binders and room for tool box and anything else you might like to carry.

Just make sure it doesn't end up too close to the front of your trialer. You see alot of short wheelbase trucks with those big cabinets dented up from not enough clearance.

I would measure your available space. The problems with a Volvo are the fact that they have a short wheelbase and the exhaust is behind the sleeper as well. You will need to make sure you have enough room between the cabinet and the nose of the trailer.

Other than space issues, the bigger the cabinet the better. As a flatbed driver, you will realize that you can NEVER have enough storage.

SHC you still owe me $100.00. Be nice to get that cash before Christmas time.

bess, asking these questions lends me to believe that you really do not know what you need. The FMCSA says that you do not even need a headache rack.
Your company may still require one tho. I personally carry 14 chains/binders, 12ea. 4" straps, 18ea. 2" straps with ratchets, 4ea. 4' pipestakes, a set of 6' drop tarps, 12 ea. 4x4 timbers, my deck is bare, & I don't have a closet. Figure out what you need or want, & do that. Save the 800 bucks and figure out another way would be my advice.

Some shippers require one though. I missed out on a load of if I remember right pipe this summer because I didn't have one.

I have the exact same issue with two of our trucks. The 238"wb Volvos just aren't long enough to put a cabinet-style headache rack on them. It appears I can only put the thinnest headache rack possible.

I have briefly considered moving the entire 5th wheel back. Currently, at its rearmost setting, the pivot point is at the midpoint of the tandems. I am concerned that besides the large amount of work involved, moving the 5th wheel further back might create other balance problems. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
