new HOS regulations fast approaching..........

    All this change to the industry saddens and angers me. I still consider myself a rookie... I feel as if I had started a year ago... Although it has been almost 5 yrs OTR... But I didn't have the privilege to experience the good old days 15 or 20 years ago. I chose this job for my love for the road... not for the money, not for any other reason, but for the feeling of "freedom" and the thrill of living on the road, constantly moving around with no place to call home... cause I don't want a home. And the way I see it, this will become more like a day job, with a mandatory stop for lunch or whatever and a weekend off or something like that. Well, that may be great for those who like this type of routine, or can fit in this type of schedule. But not everybody is the same and everybody knows that this kind of job is unpredictable sometimes, schedules change at the last minute, there are breakdowns, traffic jams, delays of all kinds, "weird" p/u and delivery hrs, detention time, night driving, winter driving, etc... This is something that those clowns in Washington don't care to understand... And we, the drivers can't stick together to fight for anything... Probably never will... All drivers do is adapt or get out... So, I am very sad... It took me 15 yrs doing some job that I hated until I found something that I love, OTR trucking, which is not just a job for me, but a passion, a way of life... And in less than 3 yrs my company installed electronic log in the truck...:biggrin_25510: That really spoiled a lot of my fun and makes me feel like a prisoner... And now this new regulation... It's because not enough drivers put enough pressure on our representatives, we don't spend some time and some money to go talk to them in person, write a letter... we don't organize... That's why the government do whatever they want. It's very depressing...

    Its why I bailed out in '08, Rocks. Tried coming back, didn't work out at all well. Probably won't be trying again anytime soon.

    It's also the new fine for Egregious 14 Hour Violations (3 hours or more over 14). Also 11,000 to the company.

    That 168 hrs is for calculating when resets could be done again. Actually, for OTR, the rule is 70 hrs in 8 days. That is 192 hrs, if there is no reset done any time during this period. So, if one does a reset every 168 hrs, then you would be correct in saying no more than 70 hrs in a 7 day (168 hr) period. With no reset done, then it is 70 hrs in a 8 day period (192 hrs).

    Isn't this stuff fun? Makes you wonder how the morons in FMCSA dream this stuff up. But then, government hacks always seem to have enough time on their hands (at our expense) to think up new and convoluted methods of doing things.

    Anyone know how this 1am to 5am to reset will work for night shift I work 4pm to 4 to 5 am 6 days on 2 off will I need to have 3 days off?

    I get the distinct feeling that those on night shift kind of stuff are going to have real problems. Some will probably have to just avoid the reset and do recap method. Depending on operation that could be an issue, but that is the way it was done from 1939 to 2003 before the reset ever came about. If you had two days off, even not qualifying as a reset, you should have no problem just recapping and continuing to work.
