That is something the powers that be don't really seem to take into account. How enforcement will deal with all the stuff they come up with.

Well, Commander Scott on Star Trek had it right...... "the more complicated you make the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain".

Probably not far from the truth.

I read somewhere where they were trying to get the electronic logs on the trucks and the truck would be able to communicate with the scale like prepass.

This is obvious and you can be sure LE agencies across the nation is working on securing budgets that include software and hardware to read the EOBR's. Drivers and carriers have gotten a way lot these last 10 years or so with "paperless logs" and were given the benefit of the doubt, but the laws of common sense states this will come to an end sooner rather than later.

The notion that if you are on EOBR, you are "good to go", "golden", "perfect with no violations" is way off base. Once a violation occurs, it's there and hi-lited to be read and cited today, tomorrow, or next month. The only thing missing is wide-spread availability of readers and the reader will do in 15 seconds what a scale master would take 10 minutes to do with paper logs. you think local and state CMV enforcement don't see dollar signs with these EOBR's? And you think there are not violations in most EOBR's?

At least with paper, you stood a chance of making a correction and getting your ticket and going on. With EOBR, nothing says you can't get cited for the same flagged violation by numerous agencies further down the road once the readers get implemented widely.

Yeah, it takes effect in July 2013. It is being contested. It may or may not change by then. Probably best to plan that it won't change so that you will be ready for it. Once a government agency digs in its heels, it is hard to get them to budge.

I see more people becoming independent owner ops so they are in control of their elogs and can change them whenever. No matter what they will never help the industry.

And it just because of the point noted in that comment that the days of the true independent who will continue to swim upstream and buck the progressive trend are becoming very short. With our progressive government today, you can call yourself an "independent" if you want but you're going to do it on their terms, one way or the other, eventually ... and it will probably be sooner rather than later given the current momentum and love of power of today's bureaucrats.

We get the government we deserve, and we get the government we [a majority of those who cared enough to vote] vote for.
