I have seen this going down the road it is for longer than the current guy. We as a industry are responsible for the actions that happen.
We have drivers who ran with drugs in their system and had accidents. Now we have drug and alcohol testing.
We have drivers texting and driving and having accidents. We now have laws about touching the phone.
We have drivers falling asleep and having accidents. We now have changed HOS in 2004.
In 2005 they made changes and the lawsuits from the special interest bunch were not happy. Plans went into the process then for what they released last year.
new HOS regulations fast approaching..........

It seems like 2005 was a monumental year for a lot of businesses who had changes in the future. Changes are good as long as it doesn't get out of hand, but these new restart rules are the worst, with the way the economy is it means truckers will be loosing a lot of income and driving hours if they have to have one dedicated time frame for a reset. .

Nobody from the rulemakers side of the table has ever asked, "driver, why did you falsify your logs?" when he gets caught. He would answer that he was held up in one way or another, while he is paid by how many miles he drives. If he is going to maintain the same level of income, this is what he does. EOBRs do not address the real problem. If a driver can make the same money doing something else, he will. Why continue to drive if your pay will be cut, I don't know, 20%? Shippers and receivers will have to start coughing up for hourly delays at their docks in order to keep drivers behind the wheel. If driver turnover is so high already, what do you think EOBRs will do? Shippers/receivers will have to face the brunt of these extra costs, and I hope it is so high that they get on the NO EOBR bandwagon. The EOBR will put an end to the hours we work for "free" while waiting for BS while trying to accomplish our job. I see the EOBR bringing a financial nightmare, I really, really, hope it does.
windsmith Thanks this. -
I hope at the very least it brings freight rates up to reasonable levels.
Although, it's possible that the megas might compensate by keeping rates where they are and cutting driver pay even more. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. -
let us not be fooled
paying drivers or even american workers more is not in anyone's plans
even if you look thru the tax structure, if you work more than 40hrs per week, you are taxed at 40%
the increased taxes, tolls, fines, costs of essentials is all geared to keep us running on the rat wheel until the strongest survive and the weakest are disenfranchised from the system
they will gladly pay more for fuel, tires, repairs, because it all feeds the corporate machine, but to pay workers more money so they can keep their heads above water is not in the plan -
You have uncovered the master plan.

call it what you will, laugh all you want, but if you look at the patter of behavior, you can see what is coming next
i remember when stocks were only traded by rich folks, they opened up via the internet, i told lots of friends of mine it was a trick to get common people to put money in the market and then they would crash the market (after taking your money)
we seem to think these are nice people in power, they most certainly are not -
I am not making fun of it.
Most of the people seem to not have a clue.
I started in this business in 1999. I got .25 per mile.
The lease was paying .86 per mile.
It apparently has not changed much.
Freight is steady. The rates are higher, but the pay is the same?
I think for the company driver, the only way to be is an hourly pay mix with the miles like UPS does. -
corporate profits are higher, highest since the depression, wages are flat
you tell me who is rigging the game
if it was a free market, that would be one thing
this thing is a sham from the top down, people think it started with obama, its been like this since jp morgan and the robber barons, obama is just the latest snake-oil salesman -
Finally someone else who actually studies history!
