At day 5 now and we have only hit 700 miles once. This load we are on now is just a tick over 600, another 600 miles on the back of it, with hopes of something longer after that. We had 5 days to turn 2000mi but spent the last 2 days doing 4 drops and picking this load we are running now. I called my DM today in hopes of something longer.

Since we left the yard on Thursday, Ive only driven two times for a total of 500 miles.

Very nice, have a great holiday. It's one of those times of year that I hope people realize what it takes to put that food on the table, but I know most don't. Happy Thanksgiving drivers where ever you are.

I love it... One of the 3 sibling owners is my dispatcher. If I have any problems at all I call him on his cell. Thats rare though.

Speaking of, I may go a week or two without ever hearing from him or any of the management. I just go to the yard every morning, print out my bills then hit the road.

Tired today though. Picked up 4 auction cars and delivered 1 to Midland and 3 to Odessa, TX. 682 miles plus load and unload. Im beat!

Hope that y'all have a Happy Thanksgiving!

I finally had to call my DM and beg to go west. I just told him that all of the runs that I was getting were 200 and 300 miles and I coldnt make any money. He told me that I didnt want west because none of the drivers out west were getting any miles. I told him I would rather not get miles out west than in the NE. Next thing I know Im in California getting more miles...

Completed week five OTR with trainer. 9700 miles, 9 mountains, six of them no jake, 3 with jake. All four corners of US docks bumped. (I am still unsatisfied with my backing skils) :biggrin_25516:. Still, week off before OR II.

These trainers that we go OTR with, are they to trained to teach or anything? The first time I set foot on his tractor, there was no place for me to sit in it. The whole vehicle was filled with dirty laundry, garbage and bottles of urine everywhere. The only space was the drivers seat. It took over an hour to clear a space for my bag. :biggrin_2556:

Sometimes I slept in the passenger seat, it was easier.

    Just a noobie, wondering.

Happy Turkey day to everyone, stay safe.

Glad you made it through Yukon... my 5 weeks was tough too... biggest ####### I ever met... It gets much better from this point forward. Find an OR II partner who is close to your own age and temperament and tell each other its only three weeks. You are almost home free.

Backing will come with time, just one of those things that only practice will improve. Hang in there brother, you're almost there!

simple answer is no, they are given no skills in how to train or teach. Many just want the additional pay, they think they will make with another log book on the truck.
Remember they only spend one week on the hill preparing to train you.

Thanks. Still lookin forward to gradfleet, then eventually buy my own tractor. I even bought a radio controlled 18 wheeler to see where the trailer is whenever the tractor moves. Now, relaxing, watching my favorite truckin movie...

But, then again ive never met many students that dont complain. I had one jump ship because he couldnt stop and eat 3 meals a day..... Another said my vents were too dusty.... another thought it was unfair for him to drive 500 of the 750 we were allowed for the day and jumped off..... another thought I was required to let him shower every day (nice when you can, but my rule was every other day at minimum) so he jumped.... it goes on and on. When you cant sit duck and youre in the boonies..... guess what? Yes, youre pissing in a bottle or sitting in agony, just the way it is. Its always the trainers fault, the trainers truck, blah blah blah.... I hear victorias secret is hiring.
