After 2 years experience, what to expect

being in this business as long as i have. your not going to find a lot of companies with perks and benefits.

i've found insurance and vacation (albeit not that great) with locals. and one even had 401.

my last OTR. had nothing but kissed in the arse. yes it was worse the england. the new company supposedly actually pays for motels, breakdown, and dentention. but we'll see. i'm still trying to make my first delivery. and hopefully back home before turkey. and they do offer vacation. medical, and pension. but again, we'll see.

given that i've spent more time in repair shops then on the road these past 6 months. i'm really starting to contemplate a new profession.

 

Look at ABF, Conway, FedEx Freight and maybe R&L

 

Go to tanker/hazmat company for best pay & benefits.
A&R Transport is probably the best with average annual pay $64K. My neighbor makes $72K annually with them.

Hate to say this hero,,,but I've been driving 30+ years, 3 million miles +, and havent had a single moving, equiptment, or chargeable accident violation within that time. Not one,,,in 30+years.
Start over I'd say. What you can expect to make a mile and what perks? Yer kidding right?

edit; I tammed this down some, but it's true! In the 1st. 2 years you had, 1 moving violation, & 2 csa viloations? Yer on a roll son!

I'm bustin yer butt to help ya get better. Set the bar higher. What can you expect? Depends on how desperate the company is for a pretty good driver. Your record so far is average. You can do better!

 

ah, you should expect gumdrops and lollipops lol. Really though, not to discourage you, but expect more of the same as what you have unless you are with a good company. For me, it took about 10 years to get to the point of really loving what I do and making great money. For me, this is no longer a job, its an adventure. When you wake up each day and are excited to get in your truck and ride down the road, its not work anymore. As far as perks, if you are with a large carrier, I wouldnt expect much, they have too many employees.

 

with 3 violations like that. its gonna be hard to even get on somewhere saying u got them within a 2 year period?... not so good.

 

specialize. Anyone can pull a box and bump a dock (no offense) but hazardous tanker haulers, oversize, etc. is where the better money is.

 

Warnings are given the same points as a ticket on your CSA, so I understand. Some carriers consider parking on an off ramp serious. In fact, some would terminate you for parking on an off ramp. But, just don't make the same mistake again. Learn from what you did wrong to get those tickets. After a couple of years in this business you should have greater opportunities with more carriers. Two years seems to be the magic threshhold when it comes to insurance coverage for drivers. You should be making around $40,000 after a couple of years in the business. Pay will vary according to the type of freight you haul.
