Chaining Up

some places you have to chain up dot wont let you sit thier because of space

 

Most places prohibit parking in chain up areas, although that doesn't stop those who refuse to continue up the mountain from sitting there.

 

Hook the left over chain links on the hook before you close it up very important in the inside, you don't want that flying around air lines and brake pots, if you have a chance sometime just cut a few links off

 

Why is chaining such a hotly debated topic? Some say " if my family is on the road I don't want you chaining up and then wiping them out" . If its that bad then why is your family member in their car and driving in it? Usually the 4 wheelers are wiping out before the trucks . I'm just so sick of hearing people say " chains are there to get out of trouble not into it". That's BS . I carry and use chains because my job requires it. How is it "getting into trouble" by putting them on and cruising on through at a reduced speed while taking the utmost care ? why am I a "Supertrucker" because I do something you won't? I don't give two flying ##### if you want to sit on the side if the road for however long and wait for conditions to " get better" . I chain and go because I would rather be up on the mountain on my own in a blizzard than dealing with the chaos that comes after the snow stops and all you yahoos exit the truckstop enmasse. So what if I run chains in a white out ? So what if I go in all conditions?! I call all you bozos at the bottom of the hill waiting "Supertruckers". Because Supertruckers are the drivers with the big mouths. While your all big mouthing at the diner counter I am getting on with my job of driving my truck.

 

I run from Sioux Falls to Vancouver BC Canada, And then from Vancouver Canada down to MN, and NE on a regular basis. As of right now the Coqihalla Hiway 5 in BC is closed due to a snow storm, when it lets up there will be 20 miles of trucks to go through the pass. The idiots without chains that spin out and block the highway end up not only with a really nice huge tow bill but can also be charged with impeding traffic. But hey us "Supertruckers" with years of experience who drive these roads every season, and do so without any problems must be wrong. Then again we are also the one's who keep getting the jobs that run through the passes usually for a really good rate, and end up making just a little better cash than the one's who sit on the road for the rest of us to go though and clean off the road for them. In BC the dot can order you to chain up and drive no sitting in the chain areas or the brake check areas, you drive or you drive. Put your brain in gear before the truck and you will be fine. They should train chaining in the schools. There should be a requirement for it when you do your tests.

 

Anyone who makes a comment about their families being on the road when the roads are bad enough to require chaining trucks really need to think about not what the truckers doing but more WHY THE HELL ARE THEIR FAMILIES ON THE #### ROAD IN THE FIRST PLACE. Truckers move for commerce, they need to get things delivered. 4 wheels not so much especially in bad weather.

 

Gee, mr.dot my truck had developed a air leak, I'm waiting for a service truck...Wake me when it shows up. Can not make you move a broke down truck. Too bad for them.

I do not have a problem putting chains on, I can chain up, But if the road is that bad my doubles are not moving here or in Canada. If your Mounty wants to drive it fine let him. If he wants to write me a ticket that is fine too, I'll use it to light a fire when I get home. I do not need to go to Canada or Mexico there the same place as far as I'm concerned. Except Mexico has better booze.

 

actually they can and will put you OOS and have your truck towed to the closest impound at your expense. Most likely do a level 1 inspection, go over your log books with a fine tooth comb. Mr DOT in BC Canada are usually very anal.

 

1 more reason not to go to Canada, you talked me into not going. As far as I care the Canadian drivers can bring the loads in and out no problem.
