O.T.R. Newbie with Gordon Trucking Inc.

Hi folks,

It looks like I will be starting on a new journey in life as an O.T.R. driver for GTI.
I thought that driving a truck would be like riding a bicycle. (who knew that riding a bike could be so hard?)
Even though I have 30+ years of driving all types of commercial trucks, IE: flatbeds, vans, tankers and mobile cranes, I had a desk job for the last ten years so I had to go to truck driving school to take a refresher course.
It's a good thing that I did because I was used to driving junk from the 70's and 80's. I had to get used to how well the steering and brakes worked on decent equipment and how to shift at a lower speed and r.p.m. range and double clutching instead of floating the gears. It was almost like learning to drive all over again, but I did get the hang of it pretty quickly though.
All of my driving experience has been with local construction companies delivering equipment and materials to the jobsites and back, so I have absolutely no experience hauling O.T.R. so I know that this will definately be an eye opening experience for me. I hope this old dog can still learn some new things, because I know there will be a lot of them.
With all the research I did on different companies that hire out of CDL schools, I think I have been fortunate that Gordon Trucking has accepted my application. I am just waiting for them to get me lined up with a trainer, and then hit the road.

Hello again,

I will be going to orientation at the Pacific terminal on 9/24. I also talked with the trainer, and he seems to be a really nice guy. We should get along just fine.
I know that I will be learning a lot since they are sending me out on the T.C. division. (I don't have a clue when it comes to hauling refrigerated loads)
Can't wait to get started!!!
