well tonight just around midnight, i was in my personal pickup, i recently switched what yard i was working out of for the company i work for so i hitched a ride back to the previous yard with one of our other drivers and got in my pickup to take it to the yard im now working out of. to get to the point is i passed from a 70mph zone in my pickup into a 55mph zone cop sitting right there wrote me a ticket for 70 in a 55. 15mph over the limit $15 fine 1 point on my license. do you think i should try to get this ticket reduced, iv never tried to get a ticket reduced before but my 3 year mvr is clean and i have 2 tickets that are just about to drop off my 5 year was really looking forward to having a perfectly clean mvr and then i get hit for 15mph over the limit. i realize i should have been slowed down before crossing over the speed limit change so i do accept responsibility for it but am curious if its worth trying to get it reduced even though i realize it would cost me much more than the fine to do so the fine is not really my concern.
got a driving award

Wow where do you live that a 15 over is 15 bucks. A mile over is usually in the 100 range. I would try to get it reduced just because most see 15 over as a reckless driving ticket. Not sure how to go about doing that but I'm sure the trucking lawyers we have on this forum will help you out when they wake up.
SHC Thanks this. -
I always thought cdl points are 1.5 times the standard. I believe your looking at 1.5 points. Anyway the drivers at my co. and myself believe every ticket needs to be fought for at least a reduction these days. That ticket in California would be $384 minimum.

Dude, you have to get it reduced. You can lose your job over that and have a hard time getting another company to pick you up.
One more thing...before you got to the double nickel zone...did you see a sign saying REDUCED SPEED AHEAD? Were you on US 83 between Bismarck and Minot? Quite a few new speedzones through there now. -
§383.51 lists 15 mph or more over the speed limit as a serious offense. A second conviction for a serious offense inside of 3 years will see you parked for 60 days. DEFINITELY try to get that thing reduced...even if it costs you $100 and they are only willing to reduce it by 1 mph to 14 mph over, it would be worth it just for the fact that you would no longer have a "serious offense" conviction. Of course the more you can get it reduced, the better off you'll be....but definitely try to get it below that 15 mph threshold.
rockyroad74, Autocar and 123456 Thank this. -
Before the court date comes up on you, contact the prosecutors office and see if they will move to have the ticket amended for you. Tell them about your driving record and how it will effect your job by getting a citation 15 over. Many times they will move to have it reduced, not always. It all depends on the prosecutor. It's a place to start.

Naw, do nothing, just let it go........

You were driving 15 miles over the posted speed limit so either get it reduced or face a reckless charge which for most if not all trucking companies won't hire you till that ticket is 5 yrs old and the company you're at now may end up fireing you when they find out and believe me,in time they will find out.

how should i go about trying to get the ticket reduced really i don't care if it cost 500 bucks to get a $15 ticket reduced. should i get a lawyer or should i try to go to court myself. if i get notice in to my company soon enough i could probably get the time off to go to court on it myself.
if i get a lawyer is there anyone you guys recommend like one of them services in the magazines at the truck stop or something?
fyi the ticket was issued in the state of nd.
in nd the fines go
speed zone 55 or less.................................. speed zone 55-70
1-5mph 5$ 0 points...................................... $2 per mph 0 points
6-10mph $1 per mph 0 points..................... $2 per mph 0 points
11-15 $1 per mph over the limit 1 point....... $20+ $5 per mph over 10 1 point
16-20 $15+$2 per mph over 15 3 points...... $45+$5 per mph over 15 3 points -
More gloom and doom, better hang up the keys man your finished, your career is over...
I know guys that have had their license suspended multiple times for more than 15 over in a commercial vehicle and they still don't have trouble finding work or making more money than I do...
I would fight the ticket and do your best to get it reduced but if your stuck with it, just inform your employer and keep truckin'...
