How much does a usual cigarette lighter inverter usually cost? Also isn't the power one can output usually dependent on how powerful the fuse is that powered the lighter? I would be worried about overloading one.

I think I paid only about 19.00 for mine and have no issues as far as my laptop goes, I have a hard drive with about 300 movies on it and that is my entertainment. My sleeper is kind of small so not alot of room for the TV...I have a cooler with a DC plug on it and that cools just fine. down side I have to keep moving it around...

usa truck does NOT allow power inverters to be installed/attached to battery. they also say they do not allow cigarette lighter style power inverters, but i didnt know too many drivers who followed that rule. when i drove for them they did not have apu's in trucks either. so in order to have power in the truck, its pretty much necessary to have an inverter. cig lighter inverters, last i checked, ran around 50-100 bucks, depending on where u buy and how many watts. my advice is buy one, use it, and put it away when u have anyone in the truck to work on it or when u go to a terminal.

If you buy one that is 500 watts and the port can only output 300 watts, will it still be alright? I assume it would just cap the output at 300 watts but I just want to be sure before I invest in one.

I have a $20 300 watt cig. lighter inverter that charges my laptop and runs my printer 'not at the same time'. Fridge runs thru second cig outlet. Its freezing my milk at night.:biggrin_2559:
