I would love to see a strike... The dates mentioned would be to soon if you ask me for a "organised" strike...

This is the first I have herd of this so I could imagine that many others have not heard as well...

Just over fuel? seems to be a poor reason is this the only reason why we would strike..... what about the 1000 other reasons like PAY, HOW DRIVERS ARE BEING TREATED, NAFTA AND THE MEXICAN TRUCKERS, STUPID AND UNSAFE HOR THAT ARE NOT PRATICAL?????????????

If I was going to strike then those also would need to be included with the fuel issue.......

Notify your state representatives of a strike and what we are striking for...(all states representatives of coarse) Notify the media over and over till they take it serious... Media is the way to get things done anymore........

Again if we was to strike then it would need to be not just for fuel but other serious issues as well......

    Haven't heard anything about it.

The dates you mention. WTF ? We're going to do a strike during the "slowest" period of the industry?

Why noy May or June? When we can really get some attention.

This is exactly why there will not be one. There has been talk of a strike since the early 80's... whats another 27 years.

An additional note: An industry strike will be viewed as a Domestic Terrorist Act...YOUR Governments exact words.

Thats WHAT im thinking myself! WHY JAN 3-8?
The WestCoast will be negotiating carrier contracts again THIS coming year 2008 in MARCH and APRIL. If I was going to try and raise some cain it would be at that time.... NOT... JAN 3rd...

I think the main pusher on this whole 3rd -8th date is ONE gal on myspace raising hell and pushing truckers and o/o for that date. I've brought to HER plate what YOU'VE just stated. WHY in the SLOW dates?

Do you know she's now Removing my posts, kinda ignoring what I've got to say ect. Im not sure WHO she is, or what SHEs trying to prove. But I do know one thing.

The word is not out there Loud enough to pull anything like this off that soon! I told her that and she was pissed. So..... I dunno....

Look my girl friend up ... She or HIM, or who ever needs a reality check.

JAN 3rd - 8th Would be to SOON... I think Also.

    My 2 Cents,
    Matt / Overtime

Let me point out that in reality, no one here has actually called for a strike. What is being called for is a unanimous work stoppage. A strike needs a couple of things to happen. You need an issue, you need an organization, you need a negotiating team on both sides, and you need another side. All these must be clearly defined for there to be a strike.

Right now the "strikers" have no real solid defined grievances to strike over, no real target to strike against, no one do do any negotiating to end or prolong the strike, and nothing to gain by any strike.

At best, what is proposed is a work stoppage, with the vain hope that "somebody" will take note and make changes that will benefit the "strikers". But since no one knows who will be affected, and no one knows who is going to present the conditions for ending the strike to anyone, there can be no strike.

We are all just blowing smoke and wasting electrons. And as soon as the January date passes, the next leader of the pack will show up, set a date in April or May, and the next strike will be on, with just as much overall effect. God bless the internet....LOL!!

I do AGREE burk... Much so...
Please review my ADMIN APPROVAL post please...
To be in fact or correctness I thinkthe entire Stink revolves around 2 people that are related to this industry. HOW I know this I dont know.... lol... But something DOES stink.

WE DO need a solid foundation in which to stike or rebel against.

I'm going to put my 2 cents in here even though it will probably tick a few people off. Who are you going to strike against? I drove for 30 years and ever since CB's have been in trucks drivers have talked about striking. In the 1970's some of the steel haulers went on strike and what did they accomplish other than busting a few heads? Nothing, thats what. A few times in the 1980's some o/o's tried shutting down, and JB, Schneider, Swift, Werner, moved right in and hauled their freight. All they got out of it was lost revenue that was never made up. I agree that something needs to be done, but a few drivers shutting down is just peeing in the wind. For every truck that shuts down there will be 25 waiting for a chance to haul his freight. The way things are right now if you go on strike it will be like cutting your nose off to spite your face. Or to quote a line from Animal House, it goes something like this. "Some totally useless and stupid gesture needs to be made on somebody's part." And then John Belushi answers, "And we're just the guys to do it"

For the love of pete stop calling it a strike and call it a "vacation". I've been hearing that if its a strike the gooberment can charge those striking for collusion in disrupting the economy or sumsuch.

In today's "just in time" market place a 3 day vacation would start to hurt most industries, and a 7 day vacation would have America on its knees begging and offering about any thing the driving community wanted just to go back to work.
Most grocery stores rely on DAILY resupplying, all gas/fuel stations do, most major retail stores, etc etc etc.

In order for a vacation to work you would have to have EVERY truck or nearly every truck in America to go on vacation the same week. Its not going to happen.

While we won't be putting the web address for the "Strike" leader out, anyone who is really interested can find it within 2-3 seconds with a search of the phrase "truckers strike" and the dates. That's how I found it. The entire organization of this strike appears to be someone's "Myspace" page, but it's easy enough to find.
