It's not something that has come out of nowhere, we've been considering it for about a year. We've watched our average miles drop, our gross pay has dropped every year for the past 3 and the hometime we used to have is hard to come by anymore.
He does have a new job with a local tanker company so he will be home every day while training and when he goes on his own, he'll be home every weekend and a few nights during the week. The pay is better and the benefits are about the same so we don't really lose anything there. I guess the funny thing, or sad thing depending on how you look at it, is the training pay is higher than what he has brought home for the last 2 months.
Roehl did change the plan on us...we figured they would. Bob called this morning and told him they were going to send someone to pick up the truck tomorrow because they are short on equipment. That works better for us... Saves me a lot of gas driving to Gary and back. -
My buddy put his notice in last week at home in NJ and they did the same thing, sent someone to get the truck rather than routing him to Gary.

Did I mention I'm not a fan of curtainsides?
For this load I was scheduled for 4 stops in the Denver area. First two stops went ok but stop 3 said I needed an appt and would tomorrow at 0800 be ok? Sheesh
So I went to stop 4 where they were kind enough to relocate stop 3's product on the trailer.
So now we wait for tomorrow. Total miles today: 23. Now at the Commerce City Sapp Bros, which IMHO is far superior to either the TA or the P-lot, especially in the cleanliness dept. -
That's funny, I'm about to get some tanker experience too.Cheryl Thanks this.

I hate curtainsides too man. I think all flatbed drivers do haha.
My total miles this week will be 1200 if I Wednesday I don't get a load that has decent miles and delivers to where I can scan my paperwork in before noon Friday. It sucks.
Also, thanks for the pic of how you had your chains and binders hung in your headache rack. I did mine that way and everything fit except for 4 ratchet binders and two of my 5/16 chains.
EthanPerpetual Thanks this.
