He not really going to run down an entire company over a couple of days when he first hires on is he? Things like this happen on a regular basis when you start a new job. There is always stuff to fix on a truck when you first get into it. Most drivers will "save" up the little stuff and get it fixed all at once and if for some reason they get pulled out of the truck before that happens you have to fix it yourself. I just got into a "new" truck that had 500,000 miles on it when another driver got a brand new one and he told me several things that were wrong with it that he had left unfixed till he had a few days off and could leave it with the shop so he didn't miss a load. Nothing major but I fixed them. Heck, I've had to have items fixed on brand new trucks that still had the plastic on the seats.
He got a load to back to Lexington. Did he not get paid for that round trip? Did they fix the computer or not at Lexington? That may have been a shop that could do it but the problem wasn't that immediate and they could not get him in for a day or two so had him run the load so it was a win-win for everyone. Would you or he rather he just sat there and waited for the shop to get to it? Unless it was so major that the truck wouldn't run I would take the load and deal with it when I got back but thats just me I guess.
I'm sure NO ONE on this sight has EVER been sent to get a trailer that was not there. Never happens in the trucking industry.
Everyone that starts with a new company needs to give them at least a month to get the initial kinks worked out and probably 3 months till they get used to you and see how reliable you are and how you run. If he dislikes it so much then he can look at another company but as a general warning too much job hopping can be very bad on your DAC. I got a very bad feeling during orientation at JBHunt but still gave them 3 months before quitting to get it straight. Went from there to a dedicated job at SNI which turned out to not be for me but the job itself was not bad at all.
I will say this. You might want to mention to him that if he starts right out complaining about stuff he will be labeled a problem driver and he might as well start looking for a job right now because when something is wrong no-one will listen to him. Also, he will go right to the bottom of the dispatch list as the drivers that take the crappy load as a favor will get put in front of him. My boss just put me on a load the day before Thanksgiving that had me in the truck on Tday. I did it because it had to go and most of the other drivers complained about it but guess what? Next Monday he put me on a few loads back to back that will make me about $300 for the day when other drivers are only getting one load. Might want to keep this in mind.
Do not work for arnold!

No he isn't quitting. And they have Gave him runs abut they have sent him to get an empty trailer (3 times) and there weren't none. They told him there was one there and he gets there ...nothing! And he get stuck sitting and sitting and nothing. And now he at the yard in lexington waiting for his truck to get fixed (
computer and exhaust leak) and was already approved for hometime today thru Monday.so to say he is frustrated is an understatement -
OP, you really don't have any right to bash Arnold. You do not drive for Arnold. I've been with them for 4 months and they have not only treated me well, but they are run pretty well. Not perfect, but pretty darn good.
You're complaining about trailers. And getting things fixed. That's not Arnold's doing, it's because of USX. USX has been pulling Arnold trailers, basically starving the drivers. But that has come to a halt. The LAWSUIT against USX (bet you didn't know that, did you?) has made it where Arnold will now only pull Arnold, and USX will only pull USX. Your problem is with USX, not Arnold.
I've been sent on trailer hunts myself. Dispatch thought there was a trailer somewhere, but a USX driver had snatched it up. But lately this has not been a problem. It's gotten MUCH better since the lawsuit.
Furthermore, all the terminals are run by USX. Guess what? They take care of USX tractors first and foremost, and Arnold drivers take a back seat many times. But I've heard MANY USX drivers complaining as well. USX just doesn't do a great job in their shops or they take way too long to fix stuff.
Arnold has been giving me really decent milage, and the dispatchers are mostly all respectful and good, the planners decent, and the CSR's not bad. Is Arnold perfect? What trucking company is.
Arnold used to be top notch, drivers waiting months to get in the lines were so long. And when the legal challenges are met, Arnold will become an even better company than it already is.
I write all this not for your benefit, but for others reading this who might be considering Arnold. But if the potential driver had any sense, they'd dismiss all this hearsay from the gf of a newbie anyway. -
Vito, USX pulls Arnold trailers because Arnold needs to move freight. There is no lawsuit over trailer so calm down on the gossip. USX told us many times we are not to grab any trailer other than a USX unless instructed to move it by operations. That was the same with C&C and Total. And that's 2 years with USX over your 4 months with Arnold.
-
And I bet you didn't know that most of.Arnold's freight is.imported from USX operations.

Bye Jeebus, don't Drive for anyone, Just Drive for the only One!!

I always heard Arnold was a decent company. You NEED to give things a chance. It takes at least a month or two to settle in to a new job no matter what you do for a living. Stay the course. Bouncing around does no good in the long run.
123456 Thanks this. -
Makes no sense. I am talking about USX grabbing EMPTY trailers, that's what the discussion is about. Please follow along.
There IS a lawsuit. Just not over trailers. But trailers are a part of it. Gossip? No. Fact. Yes.
That's why I saw a USX driver hooking to an EMPTY trailer just 3 weeks ago. Apparently you USX drivers don't follow instructions too well. USX has been starving out Arnold drivers by grabbing our EMPTIES. Fact.
How do I know the trailer was empty? He drove to the guard gate with the doors open. USX drivers have been instructed not to pull Arnold trailers unless they are under a load. Was this MT Arnold trailer under a load? HOW MANY MT TRAILERS are ever under a load? That's NOT how it works. You get the trailer FIRST, THEN you get your load.
USX has been told not to grab MT ARNOLD TRAILERS. I know the deal. Yet USX still does, only not as much since the lawsuit. Arnold drivers have been told the same, not to grab MT USX trailers. We don't. So there's the difference.
Big whoop for you with your 2 years with USX. Supposed to impress me with that???Last edited by a moderator: Nov 27, 2012

I call BULL. Arnold has it's own CSR's. But again, this discussion is about EMPTY trailers and low performing USX shops. Please follow along, and stop blowing smoke to cloud the discussion. -
I couldn't help but lock in on the gender bias (and I don't care that you're a female... it was uncalled for and unnecessary to use gender as your 'slam' on the dispatcher... a little female head-butting going on?).
I can't say I've heard anything good about Arnold OR bad... the forum doesn't really bash them or compliment them... it's part of the trucking industry and perhaps your b/f should be the one telling the story so we don't get second-hand information.
Just sayin'
