I am so sorry for your loss, as a father of three I could not imagine dealing with the death of one of my children let alone haveing to go through these kind of circumstances, not knowing why it happened, or who did it.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, And I pray that some how your family can find a way to have a Merry Christmas.

JimmyC, nothing I can say will lighten your burden. My brother passed away suddenly 4 years ago, and the devastation of my parents was beyond words. In your situation, with all the uncertainty surrounding your son's death, there has to be additional turmoil and anguish.
One thing that I firmly believe, though, is that karma will deal with the murderer. You may not know who did it, and why they didnt stop, but the world will deal with him/her one way or another.
Our thoughts will be with you as you near another Christmas without your dear son.

Jimmy, there is nothing that i am able to say to you that can help, however, i am 21, and i am one of 5, last year on May 24th 2006 i lost my brother to sudden death. He did Hvac and he was at school picking up his 6 year old daughter, when a freon tank was leaking in the back of his truck, odorless, colorless gas, they say that the first sign of leaking is sudden death, it froze his lungs immedeitly, they said that even if rescue was right there when it happend, there would have been nothing they can do, all i can honstly tell you is that being he was my older brother, and i have 2 older sister, and a twin sister, a peice all of us has left our souls, but, i wont lie, its hard, its tough, its a longer rd for you because the coward is still outthere somewhere hiding, for your other children it gets easier as time goes on, it may take a long time, for me, being he was my older brother, and brothers have that brother bond, its especially hard, it makes it even harder, cause i was the first in my family to find out, and I had to call my parents and tell them, the hardiest phone iv ever placed, and no, i dont ever want a repeat of it, we didnt do christmas last year, it was too hard, but this year, for his daughter, ( my neice and my parents granddaughter) the house is all done up this year inside and out
god bless you and your family, and stay stong, justice will be served, what goes around comes around,
be strong, be tuff, be there for anyone and everyone as much as you can, and please, please keep us here at the Truckers Forum updated on ANY NEW LEADS,
    again, god bless

    Dear soontobe,
Thanks for the kind words and thoughtfullness. Josh also has siblings, his younger brother is also 21 and his sister will be 17 this Friday. Josh's brother is really feeling his loss and as I was thinking this morning, "I can't believe how we all have changed sine we lost Josh". Our faces are different as I'm sure you have experienced and can see in your own family. It has been over sixteen months now and still nothing, no one has come forward as a potential witness or even to say that they heard something. Those truckers who travel this stretch of road in the West Village (The rd. is actually called West Street) know that there is hardly ever a time when "no one" is on the road. I think my heart breaks more and more every day for the loss of Josh. Thanks for your help and concern.

    Dear sj,
Thanks for your concern it means a lot. Still no clues in my searching for who ran down Josh. Christmas was not and is not going to be the same anymore. My two other children, Josh's younger brother and sister are broken forever at their loss and I and my wife have forever broken hearts. If any truckers have attorneys in their families or have someone close to them who is a lawyer I could sure use some help pro-bono. Let your three kids know that you love them are that you are proud of whatever they are doing. Josh and the other two heard this often so I have no regrets about that. It's his weekly phone calls that I miss as well as his annual visits and unexpected drop-ins. Take care to all and thank you again Truckers Forum for allowing me to post here, it really helps!

    Dear Etosha,
Thanks for the words and please ask your father how he keeps going? At times I think it is just time for me to "check out" and I'm sure he and your mother can relate to that. These last to Christmas's have been really sad and I'm glad this one has ended.

First off, I am very sorry for your and your family's tragic loss. I pray the murderer will be apprehended and justice fully served.

My thoughts about what may have occurred seem to lead to the likelihood that the 18 wheeler was not the initial vehicle to strike your son. Possibly, the driver came upon your son in the road, backed up to go around him instead of getting involved...perhaps due to some circumstance that only the driver could answer to but that prevented him/her from wanting to be investigated by the authorities. This is morally and legally wrong even if there was nothing the driver could have done at that time to help your son. Hopefully if this is the case the driver will listen to their conscience and come forward with any clues they may have.

Regarding a police cover up...it is perhaps more likely that the police don't have the will to do the necessary investigation to solve this crime. Unfortunately, the resources are limited in police departments and us normal citizens don't get the same resources allocated to us as do those with money and fame.

Keep going no matter what, in the end justice will be served. It always is...if not in this life, then the next.

Never give up, perhaps even 20 years from now a recovered alcoholic might come forward to confess, thereby lending some form of closure to you and your family. Stay strong and God bless!

    Dear groove,
I have thought that a driver may have done what you say and have heard that some drivers would not stop in such a circumstance because of fear of a hoax which may lead to a highjacking. The NYC coronor told me that the person who ran down my son did in fact know what he/she had done. If a trucker did see Josh and thought it may have been a hoax I wish the driver would at least come forward to say as such. I do not need to go into detail the injuries that were explained to me by the Bellevue doctor as I am trying desperately to erase all of that from my memory as well as the viewing of which I had to do to make arrangements for his mother not to see him the way I say him at the funeral home. If you drivers are allowed to ask other drivers over the radio if ANYONE saw anything on the morning of September 18, 2006 at the crosswalk of West 12 and West Street aka The Westside Highway I would certainly appreciate it. As always', thanks to the administrators and members of this site for allowing me to post my questions and concerns.
