2 - 3 months is a stretch, but can happen. Our current drug policies are asinine. I can be fired for using a substance which has been proven to be much less dangerous than alcohol. I can lose my job for using a substance 3 weeks ago....long after the effects have warn off. We've been brainwashed to believe that Alcohol is not a drug. Does the term "Drugs AND Alcohol" ring a bell? As if alcohol isn't a drug? What in the world do you think it is? Quite frankly, alcohol does more damage to our country than any illegal drug. Those who think drugs like marijuana (rather THC) should be illegal should also be proponents of alcohol prohibition. So why aren't they? Brainwashing...that's why.
While I do enjoy having a drink from time to time, I don't use any other recreational drug. If all drugs were legal, I still wouldn't use any other recreational drug. I'm pretty confident just about everyone in this forum is the same way. But if I did choose to smoke a joint on my home time, then return to work and drive my truck 3 days later, why should I be fired on that basis alone? It makes absolutely no sense.
So instead, we will have black markets controlling the drug which creates horrendous violence, costs us billions per year, and does nothing for our youth drug rates (more high school students now smoke weed on a regular basis than smoke cigarettes). On top of that, people like us, who are randomly tested by inefficient systems, are constantly putting our livelihoods at risk, even if you don't realize it. All this over the fear of a victimless crime.
If I want to put a substance into my own body, I should be allowed to. If I commit a crime while under the influence of a substance (such as driving under the influence), I should be dealt with in a very harsh manner. But as long as there is no victim, it should be legal.
Remember, freedom is not the ability to only make good and smart decisions. Freedom is the ability to make both smart AND stupid decisions.
Outright prohibition is an utter failure. People wont realize it until the Mexico violence finds its way over to the United States, which is already starting to happen, I assure you. Just wait until it becomes an everyday news story. Everybody is so worried about terrorists. Well, drug lords are terrorists too. And we are just now scratching the surface of their power. If we don't get the money out of their hands and into ours, disaster will come. One thing is for sure; Both the Drug Enforcement Agency and Drug Cartels agree that prohibition is the best option for drugs.
Soon people will realize that the pothead living next door isn't as big of a threat as the drug cartels with an illegal grow operation in the wooded area down the street. Only then will true drug policy come about. Think it's not possible? With the tightening of the US border, the cartels are moving their drug operations right here into the United States. Why deal with border crossings when you can do everything here?
But, I digress. I knew coming into this industry that I'd be drug tested and I've long accepted it. However I do find it funny that people are offended about questions the US Census asks, yet, when we are asked to pee in a cup for them, we ask, "how much?"
I will always speak out against this ridiculous war on drugs. It has never worked, it isn't working now, and it never will work. To keep doing what we've been doing is pretty much the exact definition of insanity.
Let freedom ring, and kill the taboo about speaking out in favor of drug reform. Allow me to make my own decisions. Allow me to turn away from drugs because it's MY choice. Not because I know I'll be drug tested and/or arrested by Father Government if I do it or even possess it. When it comes to drugs, I can make my own decisions, just like a big boy.

Extremely well said Mike (and I thought we truckers were all dumb like, Lol) Personally, I used to love mary Jane....and while it is a part of my past I am still a big advocate on legalization. I've known many people in my life and I will take a stoner any day over a sloppy fall down or violent drunk!
As you said, we should be able to make our own choices. How someone can drink themselves into oblivion and be within the law while another smokes a joint and goes to jail is beyond me....but it is what it is right now and personally I have outgrown all of it. (getting older is a B####)
Anyway great rant, I am off again with new company tomorrow so will be out of touch for a bit. Last "small company" was a bit too small and never paid me...nope not a dime in three weeks and then left my ##### stranded in Pa rather than pay my wages! (You believe my luck???)
Ran my ##### off (seriously had to make magic happen on the logs) and always scanned trips after delivery. Had to beg for fuel and would get like 182.50 in an express code, crap lke that. It was the third payday and he ran me out of fuel after I was bugging him for over 14 hours of how low I was. (no response) I told him to just pay me what he owes me and I will bring the truck home I AM DONE! He asked me where it was? Lmao
So he chose to fly his only other driver out there rather than pay me the wages he owed me, so now I go to court with him on the 18th for 3gran. Not sure what kind of defense he can offer, but pretty sure the judge isn't going to be happy with him. (and no, no abandoned truck on my DAC thank God....would have sued his ##### for that too since I tried to reason with him) Made sure to get all our last correspondence via text so the judge can see it in black and white.
Anyway, got a job with a small company out of St.Joseph Mo (17 trucks) hauling grain to and from Nm. Get through the house often, my truck is sooo much better (2006 Freightliner), has brakes, tires, wipers and everything. Lol I even have a fuel card! They have an actual office and they are all just cool as hell, think I may have found a home for quite some time! It is my Dm's personal truck and he guarantees 25% of whatever the truck makes and I am treated like an o/o without the drama of it. Assures me that 1000 plus every week will be an easy deal as they are set up with several dairy farms that ship and recieve seven days a week. Very excited as I have great feelings about this one, and again no problems with the UA. (go figure... Lol )
Stay safe all and looking forward to getting monied up so I can again have a laptop out there. -
But look how much better you are now at coverin' your butt.
Let us know how the new does? -
Man I didn't realize this post was over a year old now I feel stupid for bumping it..

Driver's Lineup is a building... it happens to be where a number of driver's services functions are located, along with inbound and outbound inspection bays, AND where you'd be told you've been selected for a random drug test once you're employed. And no... it's not a public test. That being said, from the rest of your post I don't think you'll ever need to worry about it.
Even asking questions like whether Prime does UA or hair tests, and worrying about whether you've unintentionally consumed some marijuana is a indicator that you'll most like turn in a hot specimen during orientation. Prime does urinalysis for drug tests. So here's a bit of advice... if you even have a minor worry that there's some in your system, just call up and cancel. There's no place in the industry for drunks or stoners. And if you do come, make sure you have a way home because a hot UA will get you kicked out without a bus ticket home. NO second chances. Legal in Colorado or Washington? Not in trucking - which is federally regulated. If you get caught with drugs or alcohol in your system, it affects everyone at a carrier through the safety ratings. -
Here reading through the prime threads I know you know your stuff Iron didn't think it would be like you to ASSume. I don't even smoke cig's.. And no I didn't check that it was an older post just been searching everything related to the prime good and bad and somehow ended up in this thread and the room called the lineup made me curious lol. I don't drink either except on the rare social occasion so I'm quite clean.. The comment about mistakenly consuming THC was the the orginal poster (remember I didn't realize the post was old) because I doubt medicines can show THC levels... Thanks as always for your informative post but don't really appreciate the assumptions I've never been considered a druggie or a drinker and wouldn't want that to start now.. Thanks.

Better that you're warned up front - and not need it - than to find out the hard way once you're there.
