My daughter was team driving a 2010 Pete 387 automatic until maintenence got out of hand. Then U.S.Xpress gave her a new 2013 International ProStarPlus with standard. She already had a worn knee joint and when she went solo/dedicated driving Walmart reefers out of IN she slipped on ice in a reefer and hyper-extended her bad knee. Subsequently she was sent to Chi for DOT re-evaluation and had high blood sugar so now she is grounded until she gets it under control.
My question is this: Why don't standard tranny trucks have air-assisted clutches? It would be as simple as power vac-assisted brakes on cars. IT WOULD SAVE MUCH WEAR AND TEAR ON KNEE JOINTS as often as you people have to clutch. Trackfodder
A simple question and maybe a new idea

Most drivers float the gears; clutch isn't used that often. Someone could teach her this method very easily.
-
Who uses the clutch?
There are already adjustable clutches that take much less than the 60lbs+ of force needed to depress a standard clutch. Never looked into them since I float, but I do have a bad clutch knee. Felt like I had gravel in it when I was required to double clutch in training, but after a month in my own truck, I hardly ever touched the thing. -
Some trucks DO have assited clutches, the Peterbilt Model 579 for one. I know there are others also.

Most prostars are hyd. Assist

In Europe there hasn't been a truck without an air assisted clutch for more then 30y.
And while floating might work when moving but you still have to use the clutch to get going.
Imagen a worn knee and a road with 10 red lights.

Company trucks need to have stiff springs on clutches to make people get their foot off of it. If you take someone just learning how to drive a truck and put them in a truck with a soft clutch pedal they are most likely going to slip the clutch a lot. Put them in a truck that thay can barely push that clutch pedal down and waalaa a driver is born.

well ajusted easy pedal is like a car clutch.
but eurpoean clutch servo is much better.
but what driver invest money in company truck? -
most truck clutches are easy to depress, but if she is double clutching she should learn to float the gears, so much easier on the knee's only time i use the clutch pedal is just as your coming to a complete stop and taking off from a complete stop. double clutching every shift i think would be hard on the knee no matter how soft the pedal is.
also try different positioning of the seat to give yourself more leverage on the pedal might make a improvement as well. -
many company trucks are with easy pedal, but not ajusted according Eaton manual. So ajusting solves many problems
