Hi. I'm 27, from Texas, and I am considering getting a CDL and getting in to the 'biz. My problem is that I have a conviction of possession of marijuana - class B misdemeanor. This happened in June 2006, so about 6 1/2 years ago. I have not had any other problems, ever. Driving record is really clean too, one ticket in 2006 that was for speeding and a ticket for no seat belt as a passenger when I was 17. I am wanting to get into oilfield transportation and just wondering if this is going to automatically disqualify me from getting a job. I would likely need a hazmat endorsement also but from what Ive read a misdemeanor offense wont restrict you from getting one. I don't think this will stop me from getting everything I need from DOT to get the license but are employers automatically going to turn me away? Thanks for any advice!!!

Also, a drug test would not be an issue at all. I have been clean for quite some time

Welcome to the forums. Questions like yours come up quite often. If you already had a license and some experience, I'd say that your chances of landing a job are pretty good - considering how old your charge is. But...since you'll need to find somebody to train you first, that will make it a little more difficult.

There are a lot of threads similar to yours, so do a lot of reading. Here's a thread from someone who had a similar situation:

After doing some reading and searches on the site, if you still can't find the answers that you're looking for, try posting your question in the Questions From New Drivers Forum:

    Good luck!
