    Hi guys,
I own a Volvo Truck 2008, ISX Cummins 400hp engine. The regen is in progress every 300-400 miles (at least 2x a day). The process is finished every time in about 30-40 minutes when driving. If I am stuck in the stop and go driving conditions, it takes more than hour to complete the process. There are no check engine or regen lights on. I needed to know why is it on so often so I took my truck in the Volvo shop 3x so far to see what is the problem. So far they mechanics did not find any issues. They replaced the sensor, updated the Cummins system, and added the seventh injector??? I was told that they do not know why the system is kicking in this often when it should not. After all the repairs, I still have the same problem. Everything else is working fine. Did anyone have a similar problem? Please let me know how to handle this.
    Thank you all.

Sounds like the DPF needs to be removed and manually cleaned. The only way to remove all the ash is to remove the filter and turn it vertically....

By the way I forgot to mention that the filter was both cleane and baked. Still did not change anything. Thanks for the reply though...

How many miles on the DPF filter ... it should baked/cleaned about every 250k miles and flow tested. I'm assuming what they are calling the "7th injecter" is the DZR it's the igniter for the DPF and needs to be cleaned. Also the DOC prefilter should be cleaned the sametime the DPF is.

Last, how's your coolant level? Are you having to add coolant? If so you may be having a problem with the EGR cooler.

Yes, I have to add coolant. Do you know what should I do about this? How much is the repair/cleaning cost? Thank you so much for your response. I am so concerned about this and I appreciate any help.

If you're adding coolant, it's a pretty high probabilty you've lost the EGR cooler.

The ISX is closed pressurized coolant system ... when it works right you will never put coolant in. If you have to add coolant, it's going somewhere. Generally the EGR cooler.

Problem is caused by when the coolant resevior is overfilled cold to the max line. That overpressurizes the system and eventually something goes. Usually the EGR cooler, sometimes the radiator or both - like I'm going through right now with a new to me truck that I just picked up.

We have the opposite problem - truck won't regen, even manually. Also a Cummins 2008, but in a straight truck so 330 hp. Had the DPF cleaned several times already this summer and fall and it's been in 3 or 4 different shops and yet no one seems to be able to fix the problem - they just basically put a bandaid on it and the same thing keeps happening. At MHC Kenworth right now and hopefully they'll find and fix the problem tomorrow, but any confidence I had in mechanics is long gone by now. My last 2008, that's for sure.....lesson learned.

Me and a co-worker were having the same issues on our 2012 ISX15. Cummins said there was a ECM reflash needed. Once it was done mine quit but his still acts up. I see you've already done that tho.

These new trucks are terrible. JC powers report on 2012 heavy duty trucks showed that 47% have been in a shop for an average of 13 days.

My uncles '13 had an issue with having to regen that often.. and had power delivery issues. Was burning a gallon of oil for every 1k miles. Did an in frame rebuild at 450k miles. Dropped more monet into it...

Then... only then he found that one injector was stuck open. Live and learn
