How many calories does an average truck driver actually need. I understand an exception for flatbeders due to increased activity; however, your avg joe who waits hours to be unloaded and drives, sleeps, showers, etc. How many calories are needed to stay healthy and not gain weight with this type of lifestyle?

To maintain your current weight, multiply your weight by 10. That is the number of calories you need. If you weigh 200 pounds, you need 2000 calories, 250 = 2500, etc. If you are trying to lose weight, multiply by 8. If you are diabetic (which would mean that you probably arent a driver), there is a new study which says if you can sustain a diet of only 600 calories per day for 2-3 months, it can get rid of your diabetes.
If you are not very active, meaning you dont take any breaks to just get out and walk around for 30 minutes per day, you should probably stick to 8-9 calories per day.ATX Thanks this. -
Lol 600 calories a day for 2-3 months, got a link or source for that 'study'? Also whats the 8-9 calories a day thing, you mean 800-900? Not near enough for a full grown person, even one that sits all day and does no activity.

How much is a good calorie intake for someone who sits all day. 1200? 1600? 1800?
-
The 8-9 is calories per pound. If you weigh 160 pounds, multiply that by 8.5 = 1360 calories per day if you are not moving for at least 30 minutes a day. If you get out an about, then 10 calories per pound of body weight is sufficient.

thats the link for the 600 calorie study.
It all depends on how much you weigh now and if you want to stay the same weight, lose weight, and do any walking at all. -
So 8c's per lb for sedentary...that'll work

I can see the 600c/day... I have had gastric bypass surgery and the first couple months I was lucky if I COULD get 600c/day... Thankfully I had a large store of FAT I lived off of... Oh yeah, that's what it was intended for... To survive off of... Now I'm down to a 'normal' weight, and it has been almost 4 years from surgery... I now need to watch my caloric intake, and serving sizes... Just like a NORMAL person

PS... My diabetes (food controlled... Not needing meds YET) was GONE in the first week after surgery... But then again, I was eating/consuming WAY less than I was before.
