so if you can agree there can be a system that is wrong, and the solution is change, yet the people suffering from the system have not the power to change it, but must make it work for them, regardless of the system in place

But no one, except those that are trying to pad the issue, believes an EOBR mandate will improve safety. That can only be done by the idiot behind the wheel. This is, and always has been, strictly a compliance issue.

I am glad you agree. Since I am in compliance and have never had a log book violation than I can choose whether or not I want an EOBR or not.

What needs to happen even though I know we will never do it is to stop driving for company' that use EOBRs. If all these company's ended up with a loss of hundreds of drivers then they would realize they need to stand up to the Feds and stop allowing the intrusion of drivers cabs. I can guarantee that if these company's that employ hundreds to thousands of trucks lost their employees and they told the Government that the reason there is a delay in getting products from point A to point B was because of these bull**** regs and Eobrs then the Government would quickly look to make some changes to benefit Truckers. And to anyone that wants to say well its a federal crime to not haul products your wrong as we can terminate our employment to force some changes. As long as drivers comply with the horse**** EOBR and Camera looking at you regs than the company's will keep hiring thousands of drivers and nobody will ever stand up to the feds and create better Truck Driving regs. Enough with the ramblings I suppose. :biggrin_25525:

If you can't tell I had a very long day. :biggrin_25513:

Like I have stated before, so many folks are getting their panties in a wad over something that hasn't even made it to the proposal stage of the regulatory process yet. Most folks who professionally watch this stuff, feel that even if FMCSA got started today, after a proposal, comments, proposal changes, comments, final rule, then deadline for compliance.... at least 2018 before it will be anything. The government can mess up a lot of things in that timeframe and make it possible that a lot of us will be out of business or no job before any E-log mandate deadline would arrive.

volvodriver01, it should really be a non issue for you then. If you are compliant now all the time as you say, then the e-log thing would be nothing more than a big yawn. As for cost of a unit, there will be fighting among folks to sell units and prices will moderate to tolerable levels. Right now, since it is only voluntary, and their is a limited number of folks making e-log units, prices are not reflective of a real market.

I do hope that for everyone's sake, both those now on e-logs and those still on paper, that any e-log mandate dies and never goes into effect. I like e-logs, but I also like wide based drive tires. I don't believe either one should be mandated. Mandates never play out the way they seem. Whether it be e-logs or Obamacare.

As for stopping driving for a carrier that uses e-logs.. why? Some of us actually like the things. I am with a very solid carrier that treats me well, knows how to plan freight effectively using e-logs so that I have not lost a dime of revenue because of them and am by the house a couple of times a week and off on weekends doing non-dedicated, irregular route freight. I have, and always will be against mandates. I have sent quite a few emails and made phone calls to my hired help in D.C. to not support a mandate. My Congressman in solidly on board with no mandate and has made several speeches on the House floor stating it. But it is the height of insanity to throw the baby out with the bath water. If a carrier is good, does most things right, yet is using e-logs, it doesn't make any sense to quit working with them just to make a point about something that may never happen or at best is a half a decade from being even close to happening. Especially if one would take a serious financial hit by leaving that carrier.

3 of you that like the comment above are on E-logs and the other is with a company that is going to mandate them on everyone within the next year. I figured all the E-log running guys would stick together and say how wonderful they are. :biggrin_25526:. The only point I was stating with my last comment is that if every driver would not drive for the company's that run E-logs then the push for them would go away. We the drivers make this world go round and without us this country wouldn't survive. But since we have the ones that are happy running them then everyone in the industry will get screwed over so thanks to all. :biggrin_25513:

the reason they all like it. is becuase they are too lazy to do there own paperwork.

there #1 complaint is having to do the math and what not. takes them too much time to do something so relatively easy.

if they were smart. they'd use a laptop with a logbook program. like some of us do.

Takes me less then 10 minutes a day to do my log book. That includes starting the page, updates at stops and the math at the end of the day.

Now it is even less when I am running ag exempt. LOL Line through off duty, write ag exempt in the comments section and put it away till the next day.

You are sooo correct!! I am lazy and hate doing all the paperwork!! In college mathematics classes, my professors always emphasized "if there is an easier way to do something, then do it that way". Well after almost 30 years of doing it manually, I dearly love not having to waste time doing it that way!! It is great when I get home to hit OFF DUTY and go into the house and not think about any of this until I get back into the truck and hit ON DUTY for a pre-trip.

What you stated is a fact, for sure, and didn't hurt my feeling one iota. I will stand on a mountain top and shout to the world that I am lazy and love working smarter and not harder!

Your comment is so farcical, I was laughing out loud! Let's put your comment in another perspective.... A guy is pulling a wagon and starts chiding the other fellow that is using a horse to pull his wagon that he is too lazy. Yeah. So what?
