just fyi.

tmc drills a hole in the bottom of the cac (air to air cooler) acert tends to build moisture in there and tmc figures its better to deal with a "known" boost leak then it is to have water.in there freeze and split the cac open. its bad for performance and fuel mileage though

 

Wow! Now that is about the most stupid thing I have ever heard of. My God, a 5 lb loss of pressure in 15 seconds (typical threshold of what OEM's consider a bad CAC) would be exceeded all the time by several pounds. That is costing them more in one year in extra fuel and overworking the turbo than replacing a CAC each and every year. I have seen idiotic logic played out before, but this one takes the cake.

 

also i do believe i read somewhere in a tech manual that at least certain models of 18 speed transmissions are not rated to be run extended periods in 17th gear. it will lead to overheating and premature failure. its worth looking into if thats your plan

 

i thought so too. i was told this by a tmc shop guy when i was looking at buying one of their trucks. mqbey they dont do it anymore, i dont know. but he showed me it on the one i was looking at. i think that was an 04 or 05.

in fact i told the guy if they drilled a hole shy not tap it and install a petcock to drain it like an air tank. i just got a blank stare

 

Not sure that is the case. I primarily run in 16th with my 18 speed all the time. The temps stay extremely low compared to anything I experienced before in overdrives. Can't say about running in 17th all the time. But when you get into overdrives (17th and 18th), turning the extra components creates more heat than running in direct (16th) like I do. You could be right about running in 17th on some 18 speed double overs, but before they came on the scene, a lot of 13's and 18's were single over transmissions. They never had a problem with overheating issues. That is why I am not sure that running in 17th (single over) is that big of a deal. But then, certain models may have that problem.

 

i am not 100% thats why i said it would be worth checking out. if i am right it has something to do with not enough lubrication of something in that gear. i read so much stuff and talk to so many people i loose track of the info sometimes.

 

Everyone speaks of MR Haney but I never see him on here? Read a lot of old post he made but have not seen him on here in a while!!
