It is according to how bad it is busted up in dash. Sometimes we drill holes in the metal plate (the one where the valves knobs stick out) and bolt the valve to the plate. Sometimes you might have to brace that plate with l brackets if the bracing is broke to bad.

2012-11-28_15-16-19_466.jpg this is what im dealing as far as dash wise its all beat up i just wana know if it can be replaced also was wondering if there are turbo rebuild kits for these trucks having to replace exhaust manifold and might as well get the turbo done or is a replacement turbo better? Also thinking about changing gears how do i find what i got and what would be best set up? Again i have a 2000 freightliner century i use in the oil fields and it has the detroit series 60 in it also how hard is it to rebuild the injectors of these engines or just clean them out just for kick n giggles

These are OTR trucks ? or regional / dump-truck... I'm in Ontario and can't say I see 30 year old class 8 trucks of any make, but for there to be 3 times as many old Internationals as Petes there must be some skewing of demographics imo.

Or 30 years ago things were WAY different.

I pull b-trains in Ontario and Quebec and when Cat power was an option all the big fleets were putting Paccar and Cat under the heavy high mileage slipseat operations. And it was not because they were the cheapest up front.

What are you hauling? Water? Most OO I've seen out that way in Flr are water. If you are pulling a flat and only get off road once in a while you might just bump along with your truck. If you are spending long hours every day on those bad roads like Big Lake, Mentone, Rankin you are going to be losing stuff on a regular basis. I drive a 379EX Pete and I go around once a week with Torx tool tightening everything from dash to sleeper. Amazing how hard those roads are on truck only going 5mph most of the time. You see the big outfits like FFE, Schneider, etc that are trying to worm in all buying Shakers. Seen a lot them on the side of the road too. Most of the companies that have lots of oilpatch experience use Petes, Macks,KWs. They know the schedule and that trucks on the side of the road or in shop get you replaced. Hope you get yours to last and make you some good money. I drove an 02' Century a few yrs back. 98% on hwy. I thought it was bad when it rained. Can only imagine the stuff you are running into.

I have a flat bed with forklift and usually its about 30 miles of lease roads right now im in the pecos area and the lease roads are worse here half the time i do a delivery i spend most of it trying not to shake myself to death and sk for she has broken down but nothing too terrible most of it i would say is from neglect from previous owner like i sId before parts of the dash where held on with double sided tape and she has already paid for herself and then some now i just wana take care of her lol

I used truckpaper. There are many salvage trucks sold for parts.

really S/T shaker is made for highway use. More tought are SD (sever duty) models. They got steel frame all panels are held on it with bolts. and I'd say KW T600 and Volvo VHD are tought enought for bad roads.

I had to secure panels with ducktape and screws and add some locks to cupholders, doors, becouse when its shaking they may open) LOL. Really I use truck to export goods to Russia, and there are some good highways there, but even intarstate roads may be in poor condititon... no deep holes, but rought!!!!

I agree. We have some guys that are using older red KW 600s. They have been doing well. Can't remember who it was that got rid of all of them. Pretty big company. Worst thing is they have same engine we do with 10spd instead of 18 but no limiter. Ours are cut to 74 and out around Pecos they run off and leave us. An 800 or 600 would be good choice if you can find a solid one when you are ready.
