Didn't get to check this yet. The DC power plug-in broke. Not at the unit, but where it plugs into the power-point. I had wife order me another one. She did, 2 from Rand and 1 from Amazon. The reason, is that Rand listed them as back-ordered. Was surprised to get all three by yesterday. Anyway next time I'm going down US-169 I'll see if it's been corrected. I don't know when that will be now though.Mark Kling Thanks this.

Excuse me if this has been addressed before (can't read all 500 pages of this!) but why does my 510 change the route? I often program it and check the ETA and route before I go to bed, then turn it off, when I get rolling the next day it will have changed the route?

I'm thinking of upgrading from a 710 to the new 720 can anybody tell me if they have fixed the problems with the power cord connection. Mine is constantly loose and not making a good conection to the unit i have had 2 or 3 new cords sent to me by rand and they work fine for a while but then become loose. Now i just take me pliers and give them a little squeeze and that works for a couple of months. I love my rand but the connection is kind of bs. really dont want to spend the money to upgrade till they fix the problem. Thanks in advance Bill

I have just changed to a set run for the Holidays, so I really only use the 510 for tracking miles and my speed. The funny thing I have found is that almost every night it gives me a different route to follow, very strange. I take I-294S out of McCook IL and the unit almost always wants me to take US12/20 south to Roberts Rd, East to I-294S (enter at 95th St.) The funny thing is that 12/20 crosses 294 along the way but the unit almost never sends me that way and after I take 294 anyway at 95th St it wants me to get off and then right back on. -
I've had my 720 for almost two weeks. The connection has been moved from the side of the unit to the rear, on the right by the edge. Seems to put less pressure on the connection that can result in a loose connection. It also moves that connection out of the way so that you're less likely to bump it around and further aggravate the issue. Mine fits snugly.
I had that same issue with my refurbed 500. I took to wrapping the cord around the mount to kind of solidify the connection to the unit. That worked out pretty well for me.Mark Kling Thanks this. -
It is a more or less a internal router rethinking the route upon getting GPS again. You can start driving again the way you wish to go and it will re-calculate the route you are traveling on.
Thanks,
Mark -
Can you give me the start/stop locations so we can test the routing?
thanks,
Mark -
I'm thinking that the routes change based on time of day and anticipated traffic patterns.
Personally, I have had problems with the 'fastest route' calculated by the GPS actually being longer (miles and time-wise) than the route that I know is best. This is confirmed by driving MY route and recalculating until the GPS has no choice but to recalculate to the route that I want. And guess what? The GPS now agrees with me that it's the 'fastest route'.
I'm a bit disappointed with the time it takes RM to acknowledge and repair the routing issues that we report to them that cost us time and money.
I'd like to have the ability to flag road segments as 'valid' routing for trucks, as a temporary and local fix to the blatant errors that RM refuses to acknowledge or fix.
edit: woot! I'm the 5000th poster to the thread
