I sure wish that 5 and 5 was still available... We do (or at least try) to do a 0600-1800/1800-0600 with a 2-4 hours worth of breaks in the middle... Some of that is available to pull over and sleep if needed.

It almost makes sense to have separate logging rules that apply only for team driving operations because of all of the unique aspects of team operation making a sold 10 hour "restful" break virtually impossible or at least very impractical.

when i ran teams we would stay out for two or three weeks and come home and then switch shifts. there was a lot of times we would both drive 11hrs a day when we did east coast to west coast or vise versa. all and all i think i got more sleep when we ran teams. after you get used to sleeping while the truck is rolling it takes quite a bit to wake you up. if he had a day where he took a lot of breaks i could sleep the hole 14 hrs until his time was up. now a days im lucky to get 7 or 8 hrs of sleep if not less.

I wish they would make it a log for the TRUCK not a specific driver... Sometimes I'm wide awake and can't sleep and my Husband is logged in but sleepy... Or the others way around... Makes more sense for the driver that is awake to drive, but they can't because the logs say they are suppose to be sleeping!! ARG!!

It only makes sense! Klingon now you got me started...
How can a driver ever get tired running for five hours and sleeping for five?! Even at that, it should be up to the discretion of a team as to who is tired and who is able to drive! THAT'S THE PURPOSE OF A TEAM!!! Why would you mandate each driver has to drive such a long stint and then be stuck in a closet all day bouncing down the road and not able to sit in the front seat when they aren't tired?
I sometimes lay awake most of the day in the sleeper and am not legally allowed to drive until my 10 is up. Well now I have been awake ALL DAY and now have to drive my 11 hours all night! When my wife and I used to drive we ran 5's all the time. Sure wasn't legal but I was never tired! I can't tell you how many nights I drive tired now because I am forced to drive this ridiculous schedule created and put forth into action by some schmuck who works 8 hour days and then goes home for 10 hours of sleep in his little pajamas and slippers! Oh yeah, and his bed isn't shaking and bouncing and throwing him about while he is trying to rest for his next day of work! At least he won't kill anyone if he falls asleep at his desk job the next day!
I don't know, maybe its going to take Chompi and force of militia truck drivers to stand up and take over this ridiculousness! Worked for the "Rubber Duck" right?! Course he didn't change the team laws and is now living in Mexico!Lady K Thanks this. -
I'm not sure what the penalties are for driving on the other's log, but I must say that at times it's REALLY tempting!!

You can make it work with paper logs but you guys are paperless aren't you? Paper logs is easy, you just run two pages opposite of each other, leave your lines open, keep the logs in the back and if need be your co-driver just drops a line on the corresponding log to match where you are.
By no means am I recommending this, just giving the details of how easy it is.
We may or may have not ran like this for years.
When I first started driving I ran teams and it was actually legal to be able to run 5 and 5's. That is how I learned how to drive.
You can fix paperless logs, I have figured that out too. Not giving any details though, I don't want to corrupt anybody on here. Paperless are actually easier! -
Naw... We are on E-logs... No bait and switch available for us...
