Discounts for a single truck operation are minimal using your own fuel card. If you haul loads for some of the major carriers/brokers, some offer their own fuel card as do a few of the larger factors. Landstar, Bennett, Mercer and a few other larger brokers will send you their fuel card and all offer discounts on fuel. Some also offer other discounts on tires, etc., The down side is that you cannot fund the card yourself. Money can only be put on the card by the owner of the card. Receipts also have their name rather than yours. After you haul a load for them, they will pay you on their fuel card. You can use it for fuel, transfer it into your own account or register one or more comchecks, TCH checks, etc., Most use Comdata, TCH, TCheck or EFS. I don't remember some of the factors that use some sort of fuel card to pay carriers.

You can get your own fuel card from any of those who offer them, but discounts will be minimal. If you are looking for deeper discounts for fuel, you will usually need to lease on to a carrier. Keep in mind that nearly all of the fuel cards have a fee attached each time you purchase fuel. Most charge from $1.75-2.50 each time you buy fuel. Most fuel cards will require you to prepay or fund the card from your bank account or guaranteed funds. If you have strong credit, you may be able to get an open credit line with one of the card companies, but the bill must be paid weekly. It is not like a regular credit card.

You can get a PDCA Card through TAB (Transportation Alliance Bank). You receive the cash price with no transaction fees at most fuel stops and will also get a $0.02/gallon discount off the cash price at Pilot and Flying J Truck Stops. It is used as a TCH for fuel and a Mastercard debit card for anything else. It is a good way to keep track of costs associated with your business. Fuel cards are only good for fuel. You can also register a check off of your card account to pay for repairs and most dealers and truck stops. Anything else you will need to get cash from an ATM or use another form of payment. The PDCA Card is a good way to go. You can fund it with a Comcheck, etc., in minutes. You can also use electronic transfers to make deposits.

thank you...not sure how that helps, being on a different continent and all. or maybe this was meant as a "be happy with what you have, we have it worse" kind of thing?
