Use a bar to do final tension on wheel nuts, eg if u weigh 200lbs u need a bar 2 feet long to tension nuts to 400lbs. Stand on bar at very end of the 2 feet length and u create 400ft/lbs
txnewbee Thanks this. -
You need a 1" gun, and you can get the socket at Truckpro. I have a Harbor Freight gun that I run off the truck's air tank with 1/2" fittings.
-
You can run a big ol 1" gun off the trucks air? Ive seen the gun your talking bout them puppies aint lil

I have an X12 wrench that I keep in the truck. That thing has paid for itself many times. It is not air operated but an X12 and a torque wrench is all you need.txnewbee Thanks this.

How much is the x12 wrench and where can i find one?

I have had mine for about 5 years so the price has probably went up. I paid $500.00. But well worth it. The first time I used it I had a drive axle wheel seal go out and I just pulled in the truckstop and put it in. It paidfor itself right there. Sould be able to google X12 and find it. It works to 3000 ft lbs.

Would a 3/4" gun work? Saw on harbor freight that they go up to 1000 ft/lbs plus there small size could let them be used under the truck or where needed just a thought because i researched the x12 and they are over 600 now and a 3/4" impact is around 120

That will work. Lug nuts are supposed to be torqued to 450-500 ft lbs. But
most tire shops seem to end up at around 750 so you will need at least that much if not more to get them loose.txnewbee Thanks this. -
I've always used a 3/4" gun here at the house. The 80 gallon tank with a 14cfm compressor does a MUCH better job compared to the 50-year-old compressor on a 20 gallon tank I used to have...
...and a 40" breaker bar w/a 36" cheater pipe can break even the most stubborn nuts loose. Combine that with an 18" t-slide or a 3/4" drive ratchet and a 20 ton bottle jack and you should be able to change a tire on the road even without air tools.txnewbee Thanks this.
