I was told I would have a choice of regional or 48 states.

I didn't think about JBS Carriers; aren't they meat haulers out of Greely?

 

My buddy works there in Lebanon at CEVA.

 

Yes they are out of Greeley but have plants all over. 1 in Souderton, PA. Not sure how far that is from the OP.

I was at Marten for 4weeks b4 I came to JBS. I signed up for OTR but all that is to Marten is to fill the slack in the region nobody wants to run in. Have all types of crazy rules like putting a steering wheel lock every time you get out the truck. Also they don't want you to park at a truck stop for home time. They want it to be some secured facility. List goes on. Been at JBS almost 3 years now.

 

crowe transportation, Elizabethtown might be a good fit. Boring transport in Belleville, but thats a hike from allentown. Class 1 transport, McVeytown. Wolf Pak. Those pop in my mind. Good luck!

Joseph, I'm pretty new to trucking (1 yr as class A, driving refer), have no background in the industry so a lot is new. Could you tell me what you mean by ""having to chain up..."? I'm also now looking for a larger company to work for and am wondering what you would consider a "good" rate of pay. This is second career (mature), 10 yrs to work yet, did lot of driving in prior career (Well, 30 - 50K miles/year by car) and have absolutely spotless driving record and background. I know there will be a "range" of pay, but any idea or ballpark numbers would be much appreciated!

I doubt if he would make 50 to 60 g's with just 1 year experience. The normal progression is a Penny every year. So if your last company had you at .30 cpm Expect other companies to offer you .31cpm.

You can also try for those companies who pay everybody the same flat rate of 35 cpm no matter how much your experience. You also might see companies who pay higher cents per mile but they are on a sliding pay scale. So a load that is less then 250 miles might pay 40cpm. While a load over 500 miles is only going to pay .34cpm. Those companies who do that normally have a lot of short haul freight and if that's what you like then jump on board.

Heartland pays pretty good, but there's a lot of hoops that make some drivers not like it. So the sky is the limit and being in Iowa you should have lot's of opportunities. Just don't buy into the lie. That after 1 year everybody is going to throw money at your feet because it's just a myth. Also make good decisions on the companies you will be working for, because job hoping is frowned upon more these days. Then in the years past.

 

It's a real shame that these companies just let good drivers walk out the door, instead of trying to fix the issue. Especially someone like you who has some time with the company.
