This is the 1st I've heard of any cameras in the cabs of trucks with sleepers,I would think there would be privacy issues with this idea.. ... I had only heard of this in day cabs only..

Your post is very misleading. The article linked says the FMSCA granted an exception to allow the cameras to be placed in positions on the windshield which would otherwise be illegal on 500 trucks only for research purposes only for two years only. There is nothing about them being placed in all trucks or even in the trucks of companies that might want them. There is nothing about being able to watch the driver 24/7 i.e. nothing about putting cameras in the sleeper etc. None of that is even on the table. They have granted a two year exception to the rules to allow a research study to take place. That's all. You are making a mountain out of a molehill.

Well just the fact that their even thinking about it is a good enough reason to be against it. If we make it known now that we don't Care for it then maybe they'll quite wasting our Tax Money on their Stupid Study.Truckinchic Thanks this.

Thinking about what? Its a two year research study looking at driver fatigue. That is all they are thinking about. Research is a good thing. You guys need to stop being so paranoid. Everyone isn't out to get you.anj8488 Thanks this.

Okay so I'm Paranoid, your right. I have nothing to Hide but its just the thought of more over Regulation and Intrusion that Peeves me off,Hell if you Fart Sideways the DOT puts you under a Scope even if you aren't behind the Wheel. Please don't get wrong, Complacency and Unsafe Habits is what gets Folks Killed but i can see the FMSCA trying to Implement in Cab Cameras in the Future. Call me Paranoid, its all good.

Get over yourselves people. Nobody want's to sit and watch thousands of hours of video of you picking your nose. But why do I have the suspicion that if there were such a camera, a lot of texting and phone browsing would stop? Commercial pilots deal with them, what makes you drivers think you're all that special you don't need to be monitored for accident investigation means? We began watching our liberties slip away A LONG TIME AGO as we voted more and more progressive and liberal because we thought we'd get more stuff and more "protection" from ourselves ... well here it is. if you don't like it, vote different next time.
Yes, put tape over the lens and get fired. That's so clever of you and really exercising your rights to your "freedom" ... that'll show them what's what. You need to realize your rights are evaporating at geometric rates and there's not much can be done about it as we learned about 4 weeks ago. Am I for in-cab cameras at some point? No, but given where we're headed at the direction of 52% of those who took the time to vote, and given all the drivers who are "flying under the radar" and disregarding common sense safety matters, operating with knows health issues, etc, it's no wonder they're coming.Last edited by a moderator: Dec 7, 2012
