I have my CDL and considering Swift (Greer, SC)...I would like to know what you think

Kevin Prough (pronounced 'Pro') is a good mentor, if you can get him.
(Kevin is his middle name, which he prefers. I think his first is Steve, or something. But I doubt anyone else has his last name.)
He almost never yells.
Almost.
Most of his yelling was when he was directing my backs, and he sometimes mixed up left and right.
We did get into it a couple times. But in the end we both always felt bad about flying off the handle, and all was good.
If I were required to run as a team, I can think of no one else I'd rather do it with.

He does have patience, but yours is just as important if you want to make it work.

He is an upright guy, married to a great lady, and teaches very well. He is probably the most important influence in my -12 safety rating.

If you're lucky you'll be able to spend a home time with him - with his wife and charmingly crazy mother. Great family, they are.

I've been with Swift 2 years now, and no regrets. Learn - and work - the game and you will do fine.

 

Strange, every time I have had to spot extra trailers I would tell my DM and get paid $10 for each one.

Like I said there are some of the dedicated accounts that are driver assist or driver unload, J.C. Penny, Sears tire loads, and the Dollar Tree I think it is, the one out of Marietta Oklahoma. We used to do Anna's Linens out of Houston but I think we lost it. But those guys are all dedicated and knew before hand that it was driver unload.

Every once in a while I would get a Coca Cola load off a yard and take it to it's final. If a pallet had fallen over I was expected to repalletize it before they would unload it. The only way to get paid for that is to be the second driver or third driver on the load. If I had been the original driver it was considered my fault the pallet spilled therefore no pay to fix it.

So many companies are vague about certain subjects that its really a plus to
get the straight info from the drivers themselves...especially without all the drama and complaints.
I've been around that and even been guilty of it sometimes but driving is difficult without being dragged
down all the time by too much negativity. I always dealt best with the frustrations with sarcastic humor.

Here's a good line I once used when told by dispatch to pull a 45K lb loaded trailer (on the Baltimore Beltway at rush hour with a blown outside tire) 10 miles to a repair shop. I refused and he put the Safety Mgr on who told me that the trouble with me is that I thought I was special. I replied "the trouble with you is that you're not 'safety', you're 'damage control'.
It rolled right off the tongue and even surprised me that I said it, LOL. Oh well, safe driving to everyone! And
