Alright, time for an update!!!
I am all finished with orientation, I get my truck assigned tomorrow! Here is a recap of week 3:
Monday, spent the entire day in the classroom learning workflow and MCP200 (Schneider's in-cab Qualcomm system). Also received a Truckers Atlas and learned how to trip plan.
Tuesday, spent the morning in the classroom and the afternoon driving. Instructors are getting us ready for the SQT - Skills Qualification Testing.
Wednesday, spent the morning driving and the afternoon in the classroom.
Thursday - SQT Training! This consists of the following:
In the classroom :A pre-assignment is sent to your MCP-200. You have to fill out your pumpkin pad, trip-plan, and put your ETA's and NAT into the MCP-200. You then accept the pre-assignment and make it active.
In the truck: You perform a coupling, pre-trip, pump down, and tug tests. The assignment is on your MCP-200 in your computer, so you follow the Navigo (built-in GPS) to the pick-up point, showing the instructor you know how to work the MCP-200 and drive the truck. Once you arrive at the pick-up destination, you complete the tasks on the MCP-200, you then follow the Navigo to the drop-off point (back to the yard) and complete the drop off tasks on the MCP-200. You then have to back the truck into the hole where you started from. You then perform an un-couple and a complete post-trip.
That's it!!! If you can pass all of that with a 90% or better, you pass!!! If you get between a 75% to 90% you are put in a re-test program: when you come back to the OC in 4-6 weeks for your follow up driving test, you will also have to pass the above SQT training with a 90% or better.
The entire process was pretty straight-forward. Schneider wants you to pass. I felt there were several people in my class that should not have passed, but they did. I am not the instructors, so what do I know, right? We started with 12 people in week one and 11 people made it through. I assume everyone passed the SQT training, as I was the first one done and tested. I was done by 10:30, had met by dbl, and left to go home until Monday.
Looking forward to getting a ratty old truck tomorrow and beginning the journey. Hope to see you all out there. Any questions just fire away!!
Be safe!
