I was sure they did not comp rooms but it would pay them to do so. Look how much return business this one incident cost them..

The law suits have started! Here is the first one of a parade of them or some judge will rule that it will have to be a class action which will happen as I believe there were 30 some odd passengers with the death count at 17. I surely hope the insurance has paid THEIR insurance up as this is going to break the owners and everything they own along with a major hit to some insurance companies not to mention that now that NYC did the first of whats going to be more than a few crack downs on buses and even locally owned trucking companies there is going to be some money spent in that town to get all kinds of CMV equipment up to FMCSA or higher standards!

To be a mechanic in that town is going to be a dream as work is heading their way! Just think those first 14 buses that were towed last week will be the spark to get stuff legal and to shake those idiots that thought that NYC and the DOT would not do anything!

I do believe the news of this $20 million suit if setting fires under a lot of the unscrupulous owners not only in NY but maybe nation wide!

Problem with this world now...We set into motion a way to healp the truly injured and disabled...while it continued to grow we opened up the avenues for people who do ge tinjured in an accident a way to sue for un godly amounts of money against corporations! I agree with helping someone who is inured beyond a point of being able to do for themselves, but to sue as a fake(not saying this is one of those cases at all) is so old! I wish we would appoint one goverment position to a person to determine what is a tru injury for suit. THen we would save this wcountry alot of money by cutting the lawsuits 2/3rds and sleezy lying lawyers are out to doing real jobs as well as everyone else who made getting injured a "job":biggrin_25513:

Very good point--but I still feel very strongly in the old adage "Week Judges--Make Strong Criminals"
When it comes to civil lawsuits--too many judges do not have the stones(and they do have the authority) to throw these BS suits out of court--thus leaving time and room for only truly rational arguments be heard--the maybe the people who have truly been wronged--will have a chance--Also IMHO--this would cut down on the amount of sleazy lawyers who prey on the victims--just to get a quick settlement--and big check for themselves!
    just my $.02!!

As soon as i saw the news that morning the first thing that popped into my head was the law suits were going to be big and many and that ambulance chasers were already lining up at the hospitals making the paparazzi look like rank amatures with movie stars!
I know that those on that bus do deserve a really large chunk of money but Twenty Million for a 74 year old is just way too stupid as after all the riders families get on the ball that twenty million for the 1 person will pretty much sap that insurance company out and the judge will see that when the rest of the people start to sue it will go to a class action which will net at least 1 million per passenger plus all hospital and medical and "pain" costs but we all know who will get the MOST money out of this and it's NOT the passengers or families! It'll be the lawyers and I would really wish the court system would straighten out where the money should actually go.

Now because this moron driver did have several licenses and was never a legal CDL holder he deserves every murder charge he gets.

I said way back that, ok, he was a felon but hey he's working, BUT I take it all back now and he can rot under Rikers as far as I'm concerned.
I applaud any ex con who gets their stuff in order and finds a job and stays out of trouble, living by the rules of society, but this idiot never did try to live by the rules. I hope he finds the love Bubba has for him to keep him in line while he lives the rest of his pathetic life in prison before they pump him full of whatever they decide is the next generation of heart stopping drugs.

I pray that all the families can get their lives put back together and I pray for those who have died to this fools stupidity.

It sure took a while for this to work through the system. The Associated Press reported
today that the bus driver was found NOT GUILTY of Manslaughter in the crash that
killed 15 passengers on March 12, 2011. The driver was found guilty on one count of
aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. On the count which he was found
guilty, the judge sentenced him to 30 days in prison, which he has served. He was also
ordered to pay a fee of $500. The story makes no mention of any possible pending
    civil litigation.

Two very interesting quotes from the story caught my attention:

I haven't a clue as to how he managed to turn this into a generational thing. If you can make
    the connection, please enlighten me.

Does anyone believe for a moment that law enforcement would be that lenient with a truck driver?

Here is a link to the entire story:

Makes me sick. I went passed that accident ( i was north on I95) moments after it happened, didnt know how bad it was until I got home and saw the news footage. Maybe he wasnt tired but he was found guilty of Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle. That unlicensed operation led to the deaths of multiple people. How is that not at the least manslaughter?
