Of the 8 or so OTR “starter companies” which ones have the best terminals?

I have nothing against going into a terminal,but I go to my company's terminal when I'm directed too,need something from the terminal, maintaince and/or a repair of some sort. Like DPTrucker posted your not making money for yourself or the company by sitting.

 

I thought I seen the Worlds greatest "American Trucker" but I think he retired That one guys sure sounded like him. Still cheer leading for Watkins and Shepard. LOL @ .25cpm and 40-50 g's must have paper logs, and who wants to lump furniture around anyway.

 

Oh its me, and yes paper logs. I grossed $46 with 136,*** miles first year...and for $20/stop i'll unload furniture anyday....Doesnt matter if your bringing them 1 Lamp shade that weighs 1lb its still $20 and you dont even have to back in for that, pull in, open 1 door climb in grab their stuff hand it to them and go, so thats $20 for less then 3 minutes of work....

Different things are important to different ppl, to my husband and I home time isn't as important as other factors, mostly because we have no "home", but a room we rent at his sisters house. So nice terminals are an important factor to us. Someone with a wife and kids at home may not care at all about terminals, home time is more important.

Pay, truck matenance and miles should always be important factors though, we average about 2200 miles a week on e-logs, but also spend alot of time strapping and tarping ( we do get tarp pay).

Just remember the most important factors in choosing a company, it isn't how the terminals are, but it can be a deciding factor. For my husband it came down to, if the company would allow me and the dog to ride along. Were those the most important things? Well no but they were the deciding factors. Slightly lower pay than a few of the other companies that didn't allow me or the dog to ride along, but the money we aren't spending on a whole household more than makes up for that.

 

I was really impressed with Prime's terminal in Springfield Mo. Full size basketball court, exercise equipment, theater, pool tables, great cafeteria, wifi. The one in Pittston Pa is nice too. The terminal in Salt Lake City is not so nice, but I have heard they are planning on fixing it up or possibly rebuilding in a different location.

 

Truck Drivers play basketball?

 

Honestly, terminals would be the lowest on my list of priorities. I'd be more concerned about their maintenance program and how they treat their drivers.
As for me, I ran OTR for Swift when I first started, and for a small fleet owner leased to CRST Malone, so those are the only companies whose terminals I've been to (the rest of my driving time has been primarily in the construction industry). Swift had some pretty nice terminals in Memphis, Phoenix, and Kansas City. Greer was decent, the one in Michigan (New Boston, I think it was?) probably had the most reliable shop. Some of them were a bit crappy, though.
The CRST terminals were nothing impressive, but you could shower there. The only company terminals I'd been to were OKC (CRST), Trussville AL (CRST Malone), and Eldridge IA (CRST Malone), as well as the agent's (Olander) terminal in Sioux Falls.

I would say England by far is the best! The even have their own pub at their Salt Lake Terminal! While you are there make sure to ask about their lease program!

 

I could not agree more. If I go to a terminal, I get out as soon as possible. There are plenty of places to stop for a little R&R, but a terminal is not one. Drive, enjoy, and build your own life. Get creative and do it your way. If you need a terminal for entertainment, you should do something else for a living. Once you get out there, you will understand what we are saying.
