I'm not aware there is a post specific to teams - forgive me if there is. From those that drive team, I'd like to know how you run your hours (roll hours?)... how many weeks you stay out... average pay per mile. Also, do you know good companies hiring out of CA, specifically So Cal. Thanks in advance for your time.![]()

As for milage pay, for example Marten Transport pays the team .46 per mile, so each member of the team receives .23 cents per mile for all miles the truck runs; doesn't matter if you are driving or in sleeper berth. Check each website for the pay per mile. All team operations work this way. Home time depends on the company & what you want also. A few companies using some teams to look at(there are more also):
Marten Transport
System Transport
Interstate Distributor
Navajo
Bekins
FFE
Central Refrigerated

I don't see how people fall into that trap. Isn't health more important than a few extra dollars? Driving team won't allow you to get any exercise. I'm solo and I average at least $600/week. On a good week like last one, I grossed $1,100 before taxes and insurance.

My significant other and I ran for Werner last year as a team. I will say this, it's more miles and more demanding. We were in an expedited freight account and it was not easy! Our dispatcher was awesome, but you are constantly moving. Potty breaks are far and few between, make sure you can sleep while someone else is driving. If you can't, you're gonna be exhausted.
In the end my team mate decided that he would rather run solo b/c the demands weren't worth the headache. I just ride with him as a passenger now.tbrown_sd and TRKRSHONEY Thank this. -
I hear what all of you are saying... I was trying to get some info on other companies, also, how long experienced teams are going before they take a 34 to reset their hours. My husband drives team now and I wish he would go back to solo. Yes, he has been making very good money, $1200 take home last week, but it isn't worth the years off his life. He's one of the ones that has a hard time sleeping when he's in the sleeper.
Thanks for all of your input. Keep your wheels turning safely...TRKRSHONEY Thanks this. -
David and I were out 3weeks, then home for 3 days. We didn't need a reset in between that. Our dispatcher would send us home pretty much when ever we asked(within reason). There were a few times that we just asked for a day off when we were really tired. Home time is going to vary from company to company. Again, we were with Werner. If there are any other questions, feel free to pm me.

With the right company you can take home at least what you grossed last week. I did even better teaming, then the company decided to not run teams anymore. With tanker/hazmat endorsements you can "take home" $1200-$1400 weekly & I know some guys that do even better.

You have to understand that more money comes with experience.

My husband and I have been teaming for 5 years.
Teaming isn't for everyone. Running JIT loads, High Value and Hazmat are the norm. Hard-running dedicated lanes (like the one we're on right now) run us smooth out of hours in about 6 days. If you run hard, fatigue is your worst enemy. If you can't sleep with the truck moving, hang it up and go home.
We would go out anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months at a time. But that was our choice. Our kids are in college and the house was empty. Typically you can expect 1 day for every 6 just like the rest of the industry.
It is hard living in the truck with someone else. My husband jokes he took all the sharp stuff out before I got on. I figure it's been five years and I haven't killed him yet, so we're ok.
Most successful teams we know are husband and wife or family members. Throwing two strangers in a truck seldom works well for any length of time.
As far as pay goes, we're o/o, so I can't really give you company rates. But like the driver above said, you can find team rates all over the internet or by calling the recruiters. You get paid half of that rate for ALL the miles the truck runs, whether you're driving or not. Yes, you will make more money than soloing (usually), but never do it for the money, because the extra pain in the neck factor isn't worth the extra money AT ALL.nickibrassfield Thanks this.
