I all, I got my CDL but no experience other then school. I am considering Werner and if I go will go to Lithia Springs, GA for orientation. I would love to hear from some of you on what you think if this is a good idea.
A little about me, I am a 44 year old, female, married but no young children. Hubby and I are used to time apart, since he travels a lot for his job. I have some experience of being OTR but not driving. I lived in a truck with a good friend of mine for 3 months. I know one thing about my learning style, patience and no yelling at me and I will learn very well.
I just want some honest opinions on if you think I will do okay with Werner or look elsewhere.
I have my CDL and considering Werner (GA)...I would like to know what you think

without formal schooling, from what i see here on the forum, it is extremely difficult to find anyone who will hire you, so you may be "forced" to go to one of the mega carriers to complete your training and you just may have to start all over again
the best thing to do is call all of the companies that advertise and see who gives you a shot
as far as swift or werner, i dont know, but my gut would say werner is better -
I did go to trucking school

I have driven for Werner. I went with a trainer for 3 weeks. My experience was not that great. My trainer was very bad. Luckily my training was a formality. I had some experience.
I would suggest checking out Schneider National. They have a great training program. I drove for them for a year. They are very well orginized and have a lot of different opportunities available, dedicated, regional. I drive fir the Georgia Pacific dedicated account hauling paper. Never had a problem with sitting and pay was good. Hometime is also good. They have regional now where you can be home weekly. They also have orientation in Atlanta. They pay for everything, hotel brkfast., lunch and also give you a nice pair of work boots.
I would avoid CR England or CRST just because they seem to have a tin of complaints.
Good luck with whim ever you go with. -
Schneider only hires graduates of certain schools. My school was not one of them.

Sounds like your choices will be CR England, Werner, or CRST. I would choose Werner. My experience wasn't great. They do have good trainers. I just happened to get a bad one. They have nice equipment also and will give you decent pay after training. Just don't let the little stuff bother you and roll with the punches and you will do fine. You will have some very stressful days. That's just part of trucking. Tomorrow is another day. Just try to learn as much as you can and make a commitment to stick it out. The only way to go with a better company is to get experience. Good luck.

If you get a good trainer, then the training program at Werner is good. It's just the time after training that you should worry about. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't choose Werner.

I am considering Werner and they want me in GA this weekend. Not sure if this is the best choice but if it gets me the experience then so be it. I graduated in May of this year and got hired on with a farmer and drove 4 months solo. Werner said I could be a shag driver in Columbia SC after orientation and they don't believe I have to train on the road..........We will see. Anyway would be cool if you are going to at least I know there will be at least 1 female besides me lol

I started yesterday at swift. I am the only girl in my group but met 2 others. One who finished orientation last week and one that has been with them for awhile.
Good luck with where ever you choose. Maybe I will see you out there.123456 Thanks this.
