I hear you. The guy's a fountain of knowledge and insight....and funny. I told him he was mentioned in a thread about whips, chains and someone was wondering if that's why he stopped hanging out. He kind of smirked at that thought.
    :biggrin_25525:

Met him when I signed up as a new OOIDA member at the truck show price special. They had the OOIDA mobile in Eloy (Casa Grande), AZ. It's heading to Nevada today if any one wants to check it out and is in the area. I suspect he'll be there in a few hours to set up.

I talked to them about why they, in my opinion, seem to have such a hard time of attracting NON Owner/Operators like myself. Good discussions about that and getting started as an O/O. One of the things I mentioned is that most of their information on their site seems to be geared for "old hands" that know a lot of this stuff...not something that someone wanting to get into can quickly get a grasp on the simple basics, and then investigate further. Things like "essential" insurance that is necessary and the amounts reasonable., the required and costs of insurances (ball park is good), permits etc. in one easy to digest "beginner" packet so someone can grasp the major concepts, costs and responsibilities before starting to assemble the items they need.

If they don't do it, the Lease/Operator companies will be happy to fill that niche for unsuspecting drivers for them.
    :biggrin_25510:

Add to that, the different issues that company drivers face versus O/O etc, and the name on top of it, just seems to say any truck driver other than a company driver. (Owner Operator and Independent Driver being similar in meaning to us nons.) I give them kudos for some of the issues they're fighting for on our behalf, that we know ATA etc, don't want being fought, etc.. and the fact that the company's can finance the lobbying efforts of the ATA with much more money than OOIDA can with just drivers membership dues. We can always hope that drivers get the message, but that's about it for now. :D

Waiting for a a load call. I think I'll go do a little more cleaning on the truck I got from the dummy that didn't take care of it like I did.
    :biggrin_25510:

    Drive safe.
