I am a rookie, rookie driver, rookie flatbedder,I have recieved some training and rely on mentor's for stuff I don't know ( guys who have hauled my loads before ). I know what a belly wrap is , have used them on some loads , my biggest concern is other peoples safety on the road when people don't secure stuff right or know how to do some simple securement methods. A lot of innocent people get hurt from bad loads.
I was loading coils the other night with about 30 other trucks in shreveport and a independant was asking me how to get a rachet binder to stop spinning when he tightened it , and he had his 4-12k coils side by side ( suicide ) in pairs in front of his centerline, he said he only had 4 binders chains and wanted to chain them front and rear. He is a perfect example of a how dangerous this job can be to other people. I worry , a lot.
Sorry if I hurt your feelings ,I like to learn stuff from this board but I don't think its acceptable for training people how to flatbed.

Some advice is better than no advice...Am I wrong?
hors_19 Thanks this. -
As you said I don't think anybody is training anybody on here. There is a lot of ADVICE given and you can take it for what its worth or throw it out the window. There is a lot of stuff that i have learned on here and there is stuff that i still look up. Now if you are coming here to LEARN how to flatbed then no i don't think its the place, but it is a good place to learn the mistakes of others so you don't make the same ones and end up killing someone. (if nothing else it can tell you what your doing wrong)

We had a sub contractor come up to us the other day and say how do you keep the triangle chock from coming out from pipe and the pipes rolling backwards and forwards. We said you nailed them to the timber bearers right he said oh right no.
