Wow that's what I wanted to hear. Thanks! And congratulations!
I am a resident of Richmond and need a school I can use to get my CDL-A and then sign on with a company like Roehl (I know CDS has them on their list). I will keep in touch!
Did you hotel it there or commute? I am about 42 miles from the school so the commute/hotel is a judgment call. If I have studying I would rather spend the commuting time in the books. So, you now have your CDL?

Yes I graduated yesterday. I stayed in a hotel that's 4 mins from the school. It can be included in your tuition. I stayed in the hotel due to my 2.5 hour drive one way. Let them know Aaron referred you. Hit me up if you have questions because I'm happy to help out.

YankeeJoe Thanks this. -
I just started here at cds on Monday (jan 7 13) and enjoying it so far. Please note that if you are a veteran and plan on attending, you must attend the woodford campus for the first week if you are going to the roanoke campus. Don't quite understand why but if you want to go to school, gotta do it. I loved the fact that I was in the truck on the first day of school learning straight back.

Thanks for that thecaminator, please keep posting details of your experiences. I plan to commit this week and get into the next class, if some of my current applications for other employment don't go through. Did you get your permit first?
-
Sorry been a tad busy. No I didn't get my permit first. Yesterday (Wednesday jan 9) all of us that didn't have our learners had a class on nothing but the learners tests. Went up today and found out I had a suspended license so I have to find a way to get it back. Chris went out of his way to help me figure out why and helped create a plan of attack. The rest of the guys got their permit and will be starting curve back tomorrow. In class during the mornings and after lunch out in the yard learning pretrip. All the instructors are knowledgable and easygoing. The guys are going out on the road for the first time on Wednesday next week. Today covered shifting, visual search, and speed management.

I am looking into CDS as well. I live in Roanoke, so if I can take the training at their Virginia Western campus that would be great for me, only a 20 min drive from home. Has anyone here used the Roanoke campus? I'd like more info on what equipment they have, number of trainers/students, etc.
-
I just graduated from their on Tuesday, their main equipment are Freightliners with a few 48ft trailer and a pup, good trainers a couple of new trainers but their good, students are about 5-8 students a class expect mines was 11 and also when i was there they a had a couple of trucks broke down which we stood around alot, i really enjoyed it there and would recommend them

Did everyone in your class pass? I've been hearing that it's hard to pass the CDL test...
-
don't know if everyone passed, still some to test, The road test is tricky, it has a hard right turn at an angle with a small curb(i hit it slightly put still passed, otherwise is an autofail) into a hard left turn sort of like an S curve, and tight back roads then finished, the instructors do well in training for that
-
How did you manage to get a hotel included in your tuition? I am attending south side TDSC in South Boston and it's killing me getting out at 5:30 every morning and having to be at the school for 7 when I am an hour away driving down back roads.
